About this listen

Maria and William seem to have it all: two happy children, a beautiful house, a thriving business. But when their home is invaded by David, an ex-employee with a score to settle, the couple face a terrifying fight to survive.

During the course of one hellish night, David picks apart their carefully constructed life. Secrets are unearthed, truths revealed. And soon David begins to wonder if he’s bitten off more than he can chew—because he’s discovering Maria and William are not the defenseless couple he imagined.

By the time he realizes who these people really are, it may already be too late… Who will make it out alive?

Good

Not a bad story line, but it was let down by the really irritating male narrator whose voice also didn't suit the character.

Terrible narration

Most of Daniel Hurst’s books are pretty mediocre, but a few are ok, so while I can get them cheaply I’m pushing on with them. This wasn’t his worst or his best work, but I didn’t find it thrilling or even exciting. It was just ok.
But it could have been improved with better narration. If the Audible sample is the prologue, I suggest you listen very carefully to it. Can you bear to listen to that truly hammy portrayal of ‘the baddy’? Fortunately for much of the book he toned it down, but he couldn’t hold it back for long, and the melodramatic baddy returned before long. And the main female character - well I’ll just say that I’ve never met someone who really talked like that all the time. Really bizarre.
I can’t recommend this.

Good story ruined by the female narrator

The female narrator is irritating. The story is good, fast paced.. although the ending is quite predictable.

Dreadful Narration

Love Daniel’s books usually. The story had potential, however I can’t finish it as I cannot bear to listen to the most awful narration! Can I get my money back?

Awful female narration

Sadly wasted a credit on this as could get no further than chapter 13. The female narration is awful - at times almost whispers which is disturbing and in stark contrast to when the male voice comes in and is loud. Not a pleasant listening experience. Constantly have to adjust the volume. Her voice is extremely grating and sounds like a child. Story not much better. I rarely write bad reviews but would definitely give this a miss if you value your hearing and humour.
