About this listen
This charming series of Victorian murder mysteries features mild-mannered Inspector Witherspoon of Scotland Yard and, more importantly, Mrs Jeffries, his housekeeper. A policeman's widow herself, her quick wits allow her to nudge the Inspector in the right direction to solve the crime.
When a doctor is discovered dead in his own office, Mrs Jeffries is on the look-out for a prescription for murder, determined to discover the culprit, despite how her employer feels about interviewing suspects...
He hated questioning people. He could never tell whether or not someone was actually lying to him, and he knew, shocking as it was, that there were some people who lied to the police on a regular basis.

Housekeeper at the ready.
Loved it, getting the rest of the series. Such loveable characters, cozy murders. Just great.

A new series to binge listen!
Clear differentiation between characters in narration. Sometimes language/syntax/ideas used not quite victorian period; nevertheless an enjoyable cosy crime novel.

Irritating Cliches
Any additional comments?
I couldn't get into this at all. The detective is a well intentioned idiot who's servants are grateful to him for keeping them employed. His housekeeper is a detecting genius and prompts him. It was all very cliched. I admit I only got about 1/3 of the way through so it may all get much better after that but I was kicking myself for having wasted a credit on this.

Not worth reading
If this book wasn’t for you, who do you think might enjoy it more?
An unbelievable story about a police inspector who is tricked by his housekeeper into solving crimes. Not worth listening to. This is the 1st in the series - I won't be buying the rest.
