*AN INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER*
‘Refreshingly forthright.’ New York Times
‘Beautifully written … contains profound wisdom.’ Katy Butler, author of The Art of Dying Well
What can life’s final moments teach us about living well today?
In this bestselling memoir, palliative care nurse Hadley Vlahos recounts the unforgettable tales of the hospice patients whose journeys of self-discovery inspired her sense of purpose and hope. From the elderly man seeing visions of his late daughter, to the young patient lamenting the time wasted fearing judgment, to the woman whose unwavering belief in her faith was shaken up by the prospect of dying.
Each story teaches us to embrace life’s fleeting nature, and raises vital questions: How do we make peace with the end? How can we honour our late loved ones? And, above all, how can we make each day count?
Compassionate and thought-provoking, The In-Between is a celebration of life’s great unknowns, and a comfort as we navigate what comes next.
‘Transformative … makes dying feel like a peaceful, dynamic, and nourishing event.’ Christie tate, author of Group
‘Gentle encouragement for all those who live under life’s running clock and for those who love them.’ Kirkus Reviews

Cried the entire time lol
This is going to stay with me. Medical professionals deserve the most, I have no idea how they do this everyday when I had to take repeated breaks reading this just to sob

Moving and thought provoking
Hadley provides a unique and moving view of hospice care through wonderfully told stories of her patience. The love Hadley has for her patients is evident in every word and their stories are beautifully told. I loved the last chapter where she thanked each of her patients for the lessons they taught her.

Great book. Thank you!
I love it, finished it in 24 hours since it was available. Love that the author is the reader as it makes it so much more authentic. As someone who lost her mom to gliobrastoma, I am grateful to have listened to this book and to the author for sharing her experience and knowledge.

Had me in tears but so heartwarming too
Thank you for sharing your story. I lost my dad this year after nursing him with my sisters and support hospice care. Hadley has put some thing into context for me. My dad definitely saw my mum several times it was different the others things he saw. Well written by an amazing nurse. people who had/have Hadley are truly blessed. I will try and be at
peace with my life beliefs and have the piece of cake.

I’m going to start chapter 3 and I’ve already cried
I wouldn’t usually do a review this early but this is really good. I’m so glad I chose to get the audiobook rather than read it myself. Be prepared to cry though.
