About this listen
Designed to match the new look Hercule Poirot series.
Read by Hugh Fraser who play Captain Hastings in the popular TV series.
Lucy Angkatell invited Hercule Poirot to lunch. To tease the great detective, her guests stage a mock murder beside the swimming pool. Unfortunately, the victim plays the scene for real. As his blood drips into the water, John Christow gasps one final word: ‘Henrietta’. In the confusion, a gun sinks to the bottom of the pool.
Poirot’s enquiries reveal a complex web of romantic attachments. It seems everyone in the drama is a suspect – and each a victim of love.

Insightful
A wonderful exploration of human emotions- love, loss, grief, jealousy, loyalty, and with a murder thrown in. Once again superbly narrated by Hugh Fraser.

Fantastic mystery.
Fantastic insight into human behaviour and motives. I could really relate to Henrietta being an artist myself; Christie completely understood the obsession to create and creative mind. Real page turner a thoroughly satisfying read.

Amazing narration to an ok story
The narration was on point as always. Christie always know how to keep her stories interesting, the characters are complex and the explanations are ok.

Exceptional, ingenious, yet remarkably moving 👏
I've just finished listening & there are tears streaming down my face! This is an incredibly moving book, but it's also funny, tender and clever. A brilliant observation of the human condition, not just for 1946 when it was published but for now. Please don't think that just because Christie's novels are often set before the backdrop of a wealthy family that they ignore the plight of 'normal' people, that's a sad misconception. Christie shines light into all facets of society and often uses her characters' own ignorance of others to amplify this. Having a 'foreign' detective was always a clever way to draw attention to her English characters' lack of self awareness too. The attention to detail brings every person to life, even the dead...
The plot twists and turns so much that even Poirot is baffled. Unlike other whodunits (and maybe because this was written just after the war), Christie pays particular attention to grief in this book. The Hollow of the title is not just a physical place but an emotional one too.

Just simply amazing
I love Agatha Christie and the way she writes bringing characters and storylines to life. Huge Fraser does the same as a great narrator. A story that gripped me straight from the beginning. Piorot is as amazing as always.

such a wonderful narration by Hugh Fraser.
such a wonderful narration by Hugh Fraser, I simply fell in love with the character of Lucy. I wouldn't have felt that way had I read the book myself, Hugh Fraser brings the characters to life in a way that my mind could never do. I love audiobooks for that very reason and I love Agatha Christie's beautiful winding stories, so easy to listen to and so satisfyingly neat and all tied up in a bow at the end with no loose ends. wonderful.
