Summary

Bilbo Baggins is a hobbit who enjoys a comfortable and quiet life. His contentment is disturbed one day when the wizard, Gandalf, and the dwarves arrive to take him away on an adventure.

Bilbo Baggins is a hobbit who enjoys a comfortable, unambitious life, rarely travelling further than the pantry of his hobbit-hole in Bag End.

But his contentment is disturbed when the wizard, Gandalf, and a company of thirteen dwarves arrive on his doorstep one day to whisk him away on an unexpected journey ‘there and back again’. They have a plot to raid the treasure hoard of Smaug the Magnificent, a large and very dangerous dragon…

The prelude to The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit has sold many millions of copies since its publication in 1937, establishing itself as one of the most beloved and influential books of the twentieth century.

Featured article: Aragorn - a Lord of the Rings character guide

From his time as the ranger Strider to his ascension to King of Gondor, this guide has everything you need to know about the hero Aragorn. Perhaps one of the most mysterious and intriguing characters in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Aragorn is known by many names: Strider, Elessar, Estel, and finally Aragorn II, heir to the throne of Gondor and Arnor. From a shadowy tracker who mysteriously comes to Frodo's aid to an essential member of the Fellowship of the Ring to the long-awaited king who restores harmony and peace to Middle-earth, Aragorn plays many important roles in the fantasy epic. And he has quite an interesting history.

The Hobbit parts 1 & 2

Although the books were good,I think that the presentation of the Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings(all parts), could easily have been done in one part instead of two,(which everybody knows is a money making ploy.)By this I I mean that each book could have been in one part per book..Although this is the grievance I wished to make ,I think that all the books are BRILLIANT.

fantastically read by Rob Inglis, he breaths life in to JRR's characters by voice and in song and sucks you right in to the book. Thoroughly enjoyed this audio book.

I have read the book several times and throughly enjoyed listening to one of my favourite stories. Listening to this is like visiting an old friend.

Brilliant classic brought to life

The classic tale of the Hobbit was completely brought to life through the voice actors performance. Music and songs were added as expected and made for a great way to experience sometimes very long passages of songs. Was really able to re-live the magic of Tolkien in this audio book format. Very impressed

There back again.

Magnificent. I like Reading, Watching and Listening to the Hobbit. I can remember when I was a Teenager, I bought the Hobbit, it took me a long time to read it, but I was glad when I reached the end. J.R.R. Tolkien was the first Fantasy book I ever read and I never looked back. I have read other Fantasy books since, but I always go back to the Hobbit and still cry with Happiness.

Wonderful recollection of a childhood past

My dad read me this book as a child, and being able to listen again to this fantastic tale brought back my very fond memories. The films weren't quite the same as this original story, but I couldn't help but imagine Martin Freeman as Bilbo and his dwarf friends as the tale went on.
