About this listen

Random House presents the unabridged downloadable audiobook edition of The Happiness Equation, written and read by Neil Pasricha.

What's the formula for a happy life?

Neil Pasricha is a Harvard MBA, a Walmart executive, a New York Times best-selling author, and a husband and dad. After selling more than a million copies of his Book of Awesome series, he now shifts his focus from observation to application.

In The Happiness Equation, Pasricha illustrates how to want nothing, do anything, and have everything. If that sounds like a contradiction, you simply haven't unlocked the 9 Secrets to Happiness.

Each secret takes a common ideal, flips it on its head, and casts it in a completely new light. Pasricha then goes a step further by providing step-by-step guidelines that illustrate exactly how to apply each secret to live a happier life today.

Controversial? Maybe. Counterintuitive? Definitely.

The Happiness Equation will teach you such principles as:

  • Why success doesn't lead to happiness
  • How to make more money than a Harvard MBA
  • Why multitasking is a myth
  • How eliminating options leads to more choice

An o.k self-help book

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I had this playing in the car and it covers some interesting areas, although I wouldn't say I am any wiser as to what to DO differently in my life to get what I am after.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

Neil gives lots of examples from his own life. Some of these are o.k, but I thought some came across as bragging along with self-promotion of his website.

I didn't like that towards the end he instructs the listener to ignore advice from everyone, but fails to realise that he himself is giving advice!

What three words best describe Neil Pasricha’s performance?

He is almost giving a video performance rather than an audio performance. There are sections where he is drawing on a pad and you can hear it, but obviously not see it.

Do you think The Happiness Equation needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

No, not at all.

Insanely awesome book

This book has been the most helpful and eye opening experience. I always felt something “off” with myself and “chasing happiness” is hard… not any more
I already feel my life turn over for good
Thanks Neil!!

Compacted Self Improvement

Felt like it had successfully compiled several self help books together, I mean this as a positive, this is the way self help should be heading. Flew through it's entirety

repetitive

Still not finished this book, I found it quite repetitive and boring.. there's a few 'lightbulb' moments that click but I found myself waiting and waiting for him to get to the point until I got impatient and stopped listening

Great book

Only reading this book will make you feel happier! It doesn't reinvent the wheel, but it makes you realise certain truths that keep all of us struggling.

Some really good thoughts

I like the easy to follow structure of this book. Some ideas are definitely worth implementing (not everything for everyone though)

Clear and very useful!

I love how Neil has recorded and worded these rules and goals. It all very true but in a very clear and simple means. I highly recommend to anyone improving their own lives or those around them.

Have a great day, all!

One massive self-congratulatory ego wank

Genuinely good advice... that could be delivered in 2 minutes. Loves the sound of his own voice
