About this listen
With a glint in his eye, Rob turns and asks me if I want to ‘touch his furry puma’. I begin to feel a little concerned about the days and weeks ahead; we are only hours into the trip and things have already taken a sinister turn. Thankfully it turns out he is referring to the little embossed logo on his new shirt.
Fuelled by a degree of mid-life crisis and the need to escape, albeit temporarily, the dull routine of modern life, David and Rob set out to walk from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean, taking in French villages, beautiful scenery, and one of the most spectacular mountain ranges in Europe. Just about perfect – if you can put aside the inevitable conflict, drama, and unexpected tedium that results from two men spending over seven solid weeks in each other’s company!

The Hairy Hikers
A most intertaining book that takes the reader on a walking journey day by day along the edge of the Pyrenees. All the joys, sorrows , trials and tribulations are brilliantly discribed

A long, hard trek told in a very ordinary fashion
What did you like best about The Hairy Hikers: A Coast-to-Coast Trek Along the French Pyrenees? What did you like least?
Compared with the great Bill Bryson, this tale is very mundane. While I appreciate that this walk was one hell of a challenge, the actual telling of the story was unexciting. I persevered to the end but wouldn't read anything else by this author.
Has The Hairy Hikers: A Coast-to-Coast Trek Along the French Pyrenees put you off other books in this genre?
No. There are variations in writing skills in any genre. You just have to try a few and stick with those you like.
How could the performance have been better?
Better material to work from.
Could you see The Hairy Hikers: A Coast-to-Coast Trek Along the French Pyrenees being made into a movie or a TV series? Who would the stars be?
No.

Okay
The story was okay but didn't like the style of marathon, not natural enough

inspiring, funny and full of information
I listen to this book over and over I enjoy it that much, the narrator has a lovely voice for how I imagine these 2 off on their adventures, I love the way the story is told and I feel like I have gone along with them.

I want to do this walk, and I have arthritis!
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
It is rare to come across a book that ticks all of the boxes. The balance of fact and story telling is without peer.
What did you like best about this story?
The pictures painted in my mind. I was taken along on the journey.
What does Rupert Farley bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
It was certainly well read and I think the reader somehow turned it into a radio play. Wonderful
If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
Next time bring your own bloody map!
Any additional comments?
More please. Lame? Well perhaps, but I do rather like his insight, and with my arthritic knees it is the best way to travel.

With them all the way
Listened to this while out walking every day, and their efforts spurred me up a few little hills - if they could walk 20 miles a day, I could surely manage 5! Well read, it's a good balance of information about the route and more personal reflections. I spurred me on to read more walking books, a good sign.
