About this listen
The Chinese government has been keeping a secret for 40 years: they have found a species of animal no one believed even existed that will amaze the world.
Now the Chinese are ready to unveil their astonishing discovery within the greatest zoo ever constructed. A small group of VIPs and journalists has been brought to the zoo deep within China to see its fabulous creatures for the first time.
Among them is Dr. Cassandra Jane 'CJ' Cameron, a writer for National Geographic and an expert on reptiles. The visitors are assured by their Chinese hosts that they will marvel at these beasts, that they are perfectly safe, that nothing can go wrong....

Basically Jurassic park with dragons
I say basically Jurassic park with dragons but I did enjoy this one as a book I could turn on and off without paying to much attention to.

Hic Sont Draconis
Not a knock off Jurrassic Park, it stands in it's own right as an action packed, soaring adventure that perfectly encapsulates a fantastical idea with a grounded reality.

Basically a big budget Hollywood movie
Where does The Great Zoo Of China rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Listenable, well produced but no an amazing listen.
Would you be willing to try another book from Matthew Reilly? Why or why not?
Yeah, the writing was good, well researched and well designed novel, only it felt repetitive at times. But proper science fiction novel much in the mold of Micheal Chricton.
Which character – as performed by Sean Mangan – was your favourite?
CJ. What self-respecting science fiction fan doesn't love a bad arse heroine
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Not really:
Any additional comments?
Very creative. Felt a lot like Jurassic park. Enjoyable

So fun
Bottom line:
If you love creature features and the general chaos that usually ensues in them you'll love this.
The concept of the book is kinda silly (SPOILER: It's a zoo full of dragons)
It's well written enough to suspend disbelief and the writer tries his best to create as realistic environment and scenario as you could have for this kind of novel.
I really enjoyed the female lead and her "Animal companion". It's a great read and exactly what I was looking for after reading "The Meg" and it's sequel.
For those who've already seen the comparison to "Jurassic Park", yeah it's alot like it. The similarities are undeniable. However it's different enough not to feel derivative in my opinion.
Overall a great read that had me cracking a smile and laughing out loud at the over the top action and quippy dialogue. Recommended for all lovers of monster movies and novels.

Just my opinion
I'm a fan of fast paced action and I've listened to a few of his books. Whilst the story is imaginative and filled with exciting chapters I was becoming agitated by his very simple use of description. A view of the area of the zoo was described as just "magnificent" or one of the creatures was simply "enormous" with not much else to fill my imagination with.

Gripping, exciting, wasn't disappointed!
When I read the synopsis I thought like everyone else Jurassic Park? But this novel was much more exciting more blood thirsty with a few unexpected turns. Matt Reilly at his best. I could listen to Sean Mangan all day long, great story teller's voice!

Awesome!
Been hooked on the books of Matthew Reilly since his very first, and loved every single one! Going through them all on Audible now and love them just as much! The fast paced action and believability of this one is pure Reilly, wonderfully narrated by Sean Mangan. Just awesome!

Good story but woodenly delivered.
Well written and read the book but listening to it is really hard work. I wish I was able to listen to it more often.
