About this listen

Rivalry, romance, and scandal run hot in this Wicked Wallflowers novel from USA Today bestselling author Christi Caldwell.

Regina (Reggie) Spark has loved Broderick Killoran, the resourceful and protective proprietor of the Devil’s Den, ever since he saved her from the streets and made her his right hand at the notorious gaming hell. For just as long, Reggie has never admitted her true feelings for him. Nor has she revealed her spirited ambitions - to buck convention and expectations and open a music hall.

While Broderick built his gaming empire with ruthless cunning, his loyalty to his employees is boundless. So when he learns of Reggie’s plan to leave his side and take charge of her own future, the betrayal cuts Broderick to the core. He responds as he would to any business rival…with swift retribution.

Instead of wilting, the savvy Reggie rebounds with a fury that shocks Broderick and stirs a desire he’s been holding in reserve for only ladies of nobility. But as their seductive battle of wills ignites under the harsh spotlight of the London Season, secrets are exposed as well - ones that could be ruinous in decent society but invaluable for the heart.

Very enjoyable tale

And Tim Campbell is a fabulous narrator. I’m looking forward to the next one in the series.

Bravo to Tim Campbell!

I've been on a bit of a Christi Caldwell splurge over the last few weeks, some of the stories have been a little obvious and have echoes from many other historical romance stories I've listened to, but this series is a little different with the less glossy side of history and yet still strong surviving women and I'm sure there were many.

I admit I don't always enjoy Tim Campbell's pronunciation but I suppose he's aiming for "RP" which always sounds odd I suppose to the modern ear, but what drew me to comment on this particular book was his singing! Who knows if he researched actual melodies, I don't care, it was rather charming and evocative of those times and added that je ne sais quoi to an already enjoyable book.

Broderick is a Thug

The heroine is only attracted to men who abuse and bully her, which is sadly a common problem with abused women.
Clara might have been a prostitute but she was still in control of her body and her life, and knew what she wanted.
Reggie speak of freedom and women's rights, but she never fights for herself
The sisters and family, she has lived with for ten years, baring one turn their back on her. All because of one spoilt, mistrusting, child and a man who can't admit he needs someone else to blame and punishment. Instead of using his so call skills of knowing everything he lashes out.
The heroine has two of theses brutes to deal with and a nasty child to endure.
Still she solves it all and forgives all.
