Summary

Annabella LaGrange was the only child of a wealthy family, owners of a glassworks in the North-East of England. When Annabella was seven, she thought the world a delightful place to live in, and only occasionally wondered why her parents never took her beyond the gates of their magnificent country estate. When she was ten she decided that the seclusion didn't really matter because when she grew up she would marry her handsome cousin Stephen and never be lonely again.

But when she is 17, Annabella learns something so shocking about her past that she flees her childhood home and is forced to embark upon a new existence with an invented past. Suddenly she must unlearn everything she has been taught about class and love.

The glassmaker’s daughter

Another great story from Catherine Cookson, the glassmaker’s daughter. Possibly her best novel. Love that audible are listing more of her books.

Great story

Loved this story, especially told by the very talented Anne Dover. She always brings the books alive for me, she is an incredible narrator. I could have done with a few less..”Oh Manuel’s” but apart from that was a fab read☺️

A most excellent story!

I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of The Glassmaker’s Daughter and was so sorry when it finished as it had kept me enthralled.

New to Cookson

Never read/listened to Catherine Cookson book before and I really enjoyed it! Very easy listening, delightful period story, read beautifully in character. A little overuse of the names Arabella and Manuel but this did not detract from the story.

A little too much pathos

On the whole I enjoyed the story & thought the narrator excellent. The only thing that irked was a touch too much pathos where the main character was concerned. Every time the narrator voiced Annabella, her voice was so plaintive I just heard ‘Oh poor me! Poor, poor me!’ Although in fairness, every other sentence she utters is interspersed with the words ‘Oh Manuel! Manuel, Manuel!’ I will be happy if I never hear the name Manuel ever again.

Can’t fault an audio book from Anne Dover

I was running out of audio books read by Anne Dover and had a long drive ahead of me over Christmas. Not sure why but always avoided listening to Catherine Cookson.
Not any more!
Loved every bit of it and kept me awake all the way to Scotland and back!!
Usually where some books end this didn’t and it didn’t drag on either. Lots of little twists and turns!
I am a new fan!
I’ve already downloaded my next Catherine Cookson book Tilly Trotter and hope it is as enjoyable as this one!
