About this listen

SUNDAY TIMES NO 1 FICTION BESTSELLER

FROM THE AUTHOR OF THE HUNDRED-YEAR-OLD MAN WHO CLIMBED OUT OF THE WINDOW AND DISAPPEARED

Just because the world ignores you, doesn’t mean you can’t save it . . .

Nombeko Mayeki was never meant to be a hero. Born in a Soweto shack, she seemed destined for a short, hard life. But now she is on the run from the world ‘s most ruthless secret service, with three Chinese sisters, twins who are officially one person and an elderly potato farmer. Oh, and the fate of the King of Sweden – and the world – rests on her shoulders.

As uproariously funny as Jonas Jonasson’s bestselling debut, this is an entrancing tale of luck, love and international relations.

‘A comic delight of love, luck and mathematics’ Daily Express

‘It’s “feel-good” set to stun levelGuardian

‘As unlikely and funny as The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out of the Window and Disappeared Observer

Quirky

Very much like the 100 year old man in that the improbable occurs on a regular basis, and everything lines up rather too usefully. That said, having grown up in South Africa during the apartheid years, I enjoyed the South African scenes which if they hadn't been so light-heartedly written might have been rather upsetting given their "well-observed-truth".

An easy listening credit. Perfect for when you need something entertaining and uncomplicated.

Even better than 'the 100 year old man...'

Totally implausible, and absolutely wonderful. Very well read, the accents wobbled occasionally, but the range of characters & nationalities were well presented; and the story rattled along.
The book will be Christmas presents for quite a few people.

I normally listen to sci-fi, which is a bit weak at moment so I tried this book. It is a great listen an amusing and witty story.

Intriguing subjects and storyline

I find the writing of Jonas Jonasson intriguing with a great story line. Peter Kenny’s rendition brings the unusual characters to life. Listened to the story in about three days!
Looking forward to more stories from this author and narrated by Peter Kenny! Highly recommend!

Narration is a little irritating so far...

Early days yet, but the narrator seems to be overplaying things, trying too hard to be interesting. It's just a bit too much emphasis and it's distracting. But it's starting to be an interesting story so I'm going to keep going.

Amusing

Listened to a number of books by the same author, always enjoyed the story and quirky sense of humour, Peter Kenny's narration is very good.
