About this listen
When he finds the body of a man shot in the back, Carney looks for answers in nearby Cayuse, a gold-rush town where everyone scoffs at his "tall tale" - everyone but a stunningly beautiful woman with a steady gaze and an unnamable fear in her eyes.

The Ghost Wagon is a gripping old western supernatural story, originally written by prolific former pulp author Max Brand, in 1921.
Performed like a weathered and enlightened ranch hand by Slate Peters, the story concerns Lew Carney, a roving gambler and gun enthusiast who’s neither a hero nor a villain, but perhaps a little of both. When Carney see what he believes to be a haunting apparition by the light of his campfire, the mystical experience sends the cowboy on a quest for truth.
An admirable precursor to the western literary richness of Cormac McCarthy.
