About this listen
'Another meticulously researched and stunningly written novel by a much-loved and highly accomplished author. I adored it!' - Santa Montefiore
Piracy. Romance. Revenge. Across the seas of the seventeenth century, two seafarers are forced to fight for their lives. The sequel to The City of Tears, The Ghost Ship is the third novel in the Joubert Family Chronicles from bestselling author Kate Mosse.
The Barbary Coast, 1621. A mysterious vessel floats silently on the water – its hull splintered and its sails tattered and burnt. For months the Ghost Ship has hunted pirates to liberate enslaved prisoners. Now it – too – finds itself hunted.
But the ship’s crew hides a secret, and the stakes could not be higher. The bravest among them are not who they seem: if arrested, they will hang for their alleged crimes. Can they survive their journey and escape their fate?
A sweeping and epic love story, The Ghost Ship is a tale of adventure and buccaneering, love and revenge, stolen fortunes, piracy and hidden secrets on the high seas.

Excellent storytelling!
I loved this book. Ok, a little bit slow to start but so worth persevering. The characters are brought to life and the story of life at sea in a long-ago century is absorbing. Thoroughly recommend.

Captivating story-telling
Another fabulous historical novel from the brilliant Kate Mosse. Set in 17th century Europe, it tells the tale of two strong, adventurous women who forge a life together on the high seas despite the odds stacked against them. Riveting stuff, beautifully narrated.

Great story well read
With her usual thoroughness, Mosse presents an absorbing story. Good to see more women taking centre stage, and exploring queer themes with sensitivity.

What an excellent story.
This book took me back to the 1600’s with descriptions of life at that time and life on the open seas. The repression of women and the unfairness of the world at the time.

Wonderful
A wonderful book, I could not stop listening. A superb trilogy of love and loyalty, adventure, endurance and strong women way ahead of their time. This third of the trilogy did not disappoint, I loved it!

Good listen with great narration
Oh how I looked forward to this ‘final’ book in the trilogy. Unfortunately as I’d usual these days there is rarely an end to a book. I really enjoyed the storylines but was a bit bemused by the lack of any clarity regarding the characters portrayed at the beginning of Book 1 and 2. They seem to have disappeared altogether. There was also a glossing over of what happened to some of the main characters that I felt a bit cheated. Too many years were jumped. At one point I thought I’d missed a chunk but no.
As I’ve invested so much time into these books I will have to carry on but I sometimes think it’s a way of making money.
That being said I did love the books and the narration was truly wonderful. Just wish everything had been tied up nicely in a bow. Hence 4 stars
