About this listen
Tremaine Valiarde and a small, brave band of heroes ventured into a wondrous new realm on their desperate mission to save Ile-Rien from the conquering Gardier. Now, as a relentless enemy creates chaos and destruction - with the fate of the magical city of Lodun hanging in the balance - the last hope of a land besieged may rest on the far side of a secret portal.
But the doorway leads to a mysterious ruin hidden behind the awesome Gate of Gods - and to perils that dwarf anything Tremaine and her allies could have possibly imagined...

Another great story
i really like Martha's world building that is something i enjoy the most in all her books. She creates complex and captivating fantasy worlds and still manages to give out clues about magic systems and events so the what follows is makeing sense and could be posoble predicted. Someone says that this book didn't have satisfying enough ending but i can't agree. I kinda prefer well thought endings over overthought ones. Martha is definitely my favourite author this year.

Enjoyable but ended with a fizzle not a bang.
I kept thinking while listening to this book, yeah this is all great but you're running out of pages to give us an ending. There was an ending but it only lasted a chapter at most. Bit of a let down after 3 books tbh. Ah well her stand alone novels are great and I really liked the characters but maybe this should have been a duology instead of a trilogy.
Awful narrator but I got used to her and sped her up a bit to get through the story.

Excellent story let down by awful naration
I'm a huge fan now of Martha Wells work, starting with the Murderbot series which led me to these two series - excellent story and imagination, but this last series is truly let down by the awful narration which sounds like a cheap text-to-speech recording with mispronunciation and incorrect intonation and inappropriate pausing. Having gritted my teeth and listened to all three in the series I don’t think it is – I think its just exceptionally poor reading/narration.
If you can grit your teeth instead of grinding them then I'm sure you will enjoy the conclusion to this series, I did!
