Summary
As the Cold War faded into history, it appeared to have been replaced by a new conflict—between Islam and the West. Or so we are told. After the events of 9/11 and the advent of the 'war on terror', this narrative seemed prophetic. But, as Peter Oborne reveals in this masterful new analysis, the concept of an existential clash between the two is a dangerous and destructive fantasy.
Based on rigorous historical research and forensic contemporary journalism that leads him frequently into war-torn states and bloody conflict zones, Oborne explains the myths, fabrications and downright lies that have contributed to this pernicious state of affairs. He shows how various falsehoods run deep, reaching back as far as the birth of Islam, and have then been repurposed for the modern day. Many in senior positions in governments across the West have suggested that Islam is trying to overturn our liberal values and even that certain Muslims are conspiring to take over the state, while Douglas Murray claims in his new book that we face a 'War on the West'. But in reality, these fears merely echo past debates, as we continue to repeat the pattern of seemingly wilful ignorance.
With murderous attacks on Muslims taking place from Bosnia in 1995 to China today, Oborne dismantles the falsehoods that lie behind them, and he opens the way to a clearer and more truthful mutual understanding that will benefit us all in the long run.

An Eye Opener
I found this book extremely (not extremist) educational. It has added to my knowledge of this subject, which has been made complex by groups you wouldn’t expect. Unfortunately on reading you begin to loose faith in the Britain and politicians you thought you knew

Exceptionally Revealing and informative
I have read and listened to so many books, but a book so detailed, well researched and accurate is very rare to find. I couldn't recommend this book enough, whatever you do, please take time out of your busy schedule to read this book to educate and inform yourself.

Essential
This book has been fascinating, and a sometimes difficult read about our shameful and politicised treatment of Islam, Muslims and various nations. Thank you Peter. I only wish this content could be widely read and understood to provide us the opportunity of repair.

Interesting read. A deep look at the hypocrisy of western governments towards Islam
A really interesting listen on the hypocrisy of the west towards Islam. Particular focus on governments and the media. Covers the US, France and the U.K. and I’d consider it an intro rather than a deep dive, but I found it very interesting and wanting to read more

A must read
Wow! An insightful, thought provoking work by a reputable author. However, it is depressing how the state so easily manipulated public opinion along with their client journalists.

A book of integrity
This work shines a light on how easily the general public can be influenced or manipulated. People think this is confined to history, but it is still ongoing. The dehumanisation of groups for individual or political gain is appalling and this book offers a fact based alternative to what has been reported over the past twenty years. It is clearly well researched and Peter Oborne, having been part of the media and having had close connections to those in power is well qualified to tell this story. It is told with in-depth knowledge, experience and substance. Well done for speaking against the official narrative. A must read book in the current geopolitical climate and for generations into the future.

A first class example of diligent journalism
I have long held fears and suspicions in relation to the seemingly and worrying rise in anti Islam rhetotic but never properly appreciated how deep rooted it is and how far back in history it extends. Now i know. An excellent book, should be compulsory reading in schools across the UK, especially English schools.
