Summary

Book 2 of The End Times

When the Emperor is lost, it falls to Reiksmarshal Kurt Helborg to return to Altdorf, capital of the Empire, and prepare to meet the forces of the Ruinous Powers in a final battle for that ancient city.

LISTEN TO IT BECAUSE

Not only does this novel chart the apocalyptic battle for the very heart of Sigmar's realm, but it brings back heroes and villains from across the Warhammer mythos and reunites the Empire in a most unexpected way…

THE STORY

The End Times are coming.

With the hordes of Chaos marshalling in the north, Emperor Karl Franz leads his armies in defence of his realm. But when the worst happens, Reiksmarshal Kurt Helborg must return to Altdorf, the capital of the Empire. There, he must steel himself and prepare his soldiers to defend the jewel of the Empire from the corrupted advance of the forces of Chaos.

As plague spreads and the defences weaken, all seems lost—until help arrives from a most unexpected source... if Helborg can bring himself to accept it.

Written by Chris Wraight. Narrated by Andrew James Spooner. Running time 13 hours 18 minutes (approx).

Bleak, Daring and Slightly Overlong.

This is a fun, but definitively overlong book.

Centred around the ultimately triumphant defence of Altdorf, the last city of the Empire to hold out against Chaos, the book starts with a few chapters that advance the narrative at light speed.

When you get adjusted to this, the first half of the book flies. And it’s very enjoyable. But then it hits the second half - where an impoverished city prepares for a bleak last stand against the largest army ever recorded.

It’s slow. It’s challenging. It’s boring.

Thank god the final quarter is enjoyable, or this would have been a major dud.

As usual with Black Library, the performance quality is high.

clear dip

While the story was fairly good, the performance had issues to me; especially when there was no clear part between passages. When the story jumped, this caused a lot "The fuck"

As a fan of warhammer fantasy this was incredible

This is one of my favorite warhammer books i've listened too in a long time. Voice acting was superb and i do love some good fan service to old and familiar characters and places in the old world. There isnt enough of them in my opinion. I cant wait for the next one to be released on Audible 😁

Amazing progression of Age of Sigmar

having listened to Nagash, I'm happy to hear what those characters get up to and the impact they have. crazy how powerful the Nurgle army is. Ending was satisfying.
