About this listen

The tension-filled sequel to The Strain, from the world-famous director whose films include Pan’s Labyrinthe and Hellboy. Now a popular Amazon TV show.

Humans have been displaced at the top of the food chain, and now understand – to their outright horror – what it is to be not the consumer, but the consumed.

Ephraim Goodweather, director of the New York office of the Centers for Disease control, is one of the few humans who understands what is really happening. Vampires have arrived in New York City, and their condition is contagious. If they cannot be contained, the entire world is at risk of infection.

As Eph becomes consumed with the battle against the total corruption of humanity, his ex-wife, Kelly, now a vampire herself, is ever-more determined to claim their son, Zack.

As the Biblical origins of the Ancient ones are gradually revealed, Eph learns that there is a greater, more terrible plan in store for the human race – worse even than annihilation…

Taking the Strain

The second book in the trilogy continues in a pacy manner. however, as sometimes with second books, this one lacks a little something. The Strain left me wanting more, immediately. After the fall I did not feel that sense of need. I think The Fall has lost some of the depth of The Strain nevertheless, worth a listen.

As good as book 1

This book picks up where book one ends so the series needs to be read in order. I really enjoyed it and I found the narration spot on.

The Fall (Unabridged)

One of the best books I've listened to.
Fantastic because of content and also the narrators voice.

Another great read

This book follows on so well from the first. I can't wait to hear what happens next.

A bit silly

The second book of the strain trilogy is a bit silly but as long as you don't take it seriously it is good fun. I will listen to the third when it comes out.

Good follow up to the strain but it would have been great if they had kept Ron Perlman as the narrator

A pretty solid book and I enjoyed it but the narrators voice stopped me from really getting immersed in the story. The guys voice is quite tinny sounding, almost like he’s talking into an empty can and I found it harsh at times almost making me wince.
Wish they’d kept Ron Perlman onboard, his reading of the first book really got me hooked to the story, his voice was much clearer, resonated well and didn’t make me feel like I was being smacked in the ear with an ice pick.

So in short... i really liked the story and I’d recommend it to anyone who enjoyed the first book, the guys voice takes some getting used to but the great writing makes it worth putting up with.

Brilliant

What made the experience of listening to The Fall the most enjoyable?

Watched the TV show and thought about buying the book but having concentration levels due to illness at the moment so got this instead, very high quality reproduction and far better than the TV series, Just have to stop falling asleep otherwise you loose your place, its the morphine that does that not the quality of the story!

riveting read

fantastic horror, part 2 of the strain trilogy following the vampiric hordes of sardu as they are embattled by our band of heroic resistance fighters. for fans of the tv version it follows the plot to a large degree
