About this listen

The first in the multi-author, post-apocalyptic blockbuster series

Cal's "honeymoon" didn't start off quite how he'd planned. For starters, he was heading somewhere he didn't actually want to go. And secondly, he was going alone and unmarried. He had no idea that his first visit to New York City would also land him in the middle of a domestic terror attack, forcing him to flee Manhattan in a desperate bid to survive.

This was no ordinary terror attack.

The Movement, in a misguided attempt to seize political control of the USA, unwittingly invited the destruction of their homeland, and as the bombs start to fall, the shock and loss of life reverberates around the world.

Cal, along with a small group he met in NYC, desperately flees inland away from the targeted coastal cities, but chaos follows them around every corner.

OK story but poor characters and dialogue

I kept imagining Brian from Family Guy everytime the reader did Cal's accent and once I thought that I couldn't unthink it. No way would an ex serviceman behave the way Cal did, the storyline itself was OK but I didn't care for the characters or the dialogue and had to stop listening.

This one’s free but pay double for the other 2

I’m enjoying this but as I’m listening I’m looking at the other 2 books in the series. At about 6 hours each they’re about half a book each as far as credits go. I’d buy them as 1 book but feel a little bit ripped off as I expect 10 hours plus per credit

A tale of two halfs

The first half of this book was interesting and engaging, building up to the cataclysm which would engulf the protagonists. Alas that cataclysm when it came was a bit too far fetched for me and I quickly lost interest in the story.
My biggest gripe was that the story didn't end, but simply stopped with the protagonists left in limbo, which to be honest they had been in since just after the midpoint of the book. I never got a sense that they had any real direction or goals and simply lurched from event to event.

Good but was not a complete book

This was like the opening chapters of a book, i get that it is a trilogy but it fails as a stand alone book, I was irritated also by Devons use of the diabetic coma trope , he used this in a previous book incorrectly in both cases, diabetic coma caused by lack of insulin can't be treated by sugar!!!

Realistic and frightening

Just finished this and cannot wait to read the next in the series. This gripped me almost from thd start. I have heard the saying "we're only one meal away from anarchy". This shows how close we all live to this maxim without even realising it. Great writing and narration. Definitely food for though.

Interesting story, terrible accents

An enjoyable story that’s let down by the terrible accents and that fact that despite the main character being British - the writer doesn’t actually seem to like the British, sone snide comments just seem out of place.

Modern Day Red Dawn.

I enjoyed this, good story gave me 1980's action movie vibes. The British accents were a bit off but good enough not to bother me. good listen will definitely be continuing with the series.

Really enjoying this start to the series

I do love this type of book and when it is done well works. The narration added to the story. It was so good that I am currently binging through the series - this is what I like about the audible plus catalogue you get to listen to authors and narrators that you have never come across before.
