About this listen

Foolish women fall in love with the bad boy.

Cane Alexander was bad boy personified.

Confident, he entered a room with his piercing blue eyes wearing a smug grin. He was the proverbial red flag wrapped up in a ridiculous set of abs.

I tried to resist him. After all, I was done being a fool.

Maybe it was his charm, or perhaps it was his persistence. Maybe it was how he entered my life and refused to leave. Whatever the reason, I fell for the one man I should’ve resisted.

Even though it made me a target.

I didn’t know if I’d become yet another notch on his bedpost or be the exception to his rules.

Or if I’d survive long enough to be either.

From USA Today Bestselling author Adriana Locke comes a tale full of twists and turns. Listeners who enjoy opposites attract, romantic suspense, and cocky heroes will enjoy this story.

Note: The Exception now includes an extended epilogue previously titled The Connection.

Everyone love an Alphahole!

The Exception by Adriana Locke follows playboy, billionaire, alphahole Cane Alexander and Jada Stanley.
Jada is looking for a new life after finally having the strength to leave an abusive relationship. Insert Cane Alexander, Jada knows she cannot love a man like Cane as he is everything that she is not looking for. Cane, lover of all women - at least once finds an instant connection with Jada. Knowing that he’s not capable of being the man he wants but wanting to be the man she has to have, Cane pursues her anyway.
After finally breaking down her walls - Jada gives in to one night with Cane, thinking he was going to be different she realizes he is exactly what he said he would be. Just sex, nothing more.
Or does Cane find his Exception?
The Exception is a story with stubborn men, strong women and borderline gray areas ( but thats what we all love about an alphahole.)
This book also has really fun loveable side characters. I adore Keri and Max!

Samantha Brentmoor and Connor Crais are a fantastic narration pair for this story. I love how Samantha brings Jadas strength and vulnerabilities out while Connor does a great job helping us feel the back and forth that Cane is going through.

Overall I liked the story - Cant wait to read more from Adriana Locke.

Beautiful!

Adriana Locke is one of my go-to authors for feel-good, emotional romances with just the right amount of angst. And this book just solidifies that. Divorced heroine who didn’t even want a relationship falls in love with a bad boy. Alpha hero meets strong, independent woman. And for a reason unbeknownst to me I seem to have a knack for divorcee heroines. Who knew?
Fair warning, the hero does get together with another woman but it happens when there is no commitment at all between him and our heroine. Did I like it? Not at all. But it’s part of his character growth. Just trust Ms. Locke on this.

So … the audio. Samantha Brentmoor and Connor Crais are a fantastic narrator duo. I loved how they captured all the emotions and intonations just perfectly.

Fantastic

I loved this book and couple. With such strong characters I was worried that I wouldn’t like the H but he was brilliant. I can’t wait to see what happens next. Brilliant performance.

Swoony and sweet with a touch of suspense

The Exception is swoony and sweet, with a little bit of danger and suspense.
Jada is starting over after getting out of a toxic relationship and not looking to jump back into anything. She knows she needs to swear off of those “bad boys” she seems to be attracted to, but as soon as she meets Cane Alexander she is fighting a losing battle against the immediate attraction.

“You’re the one exception to every rule I’ve ever made.”

Cane has a rule to keep his relationships uncomplicated but meeting Jada proves that some rules were made to be broken.

“You’re my world. My happiness. My exception.”

I loved listening to The Exception on audiobook. The narration was wonderful and just made the reading experience even better.

Exceptionally Grand! Fantastic Story & Narration🎧

Consider me wowed, I loved everything about this book, from Adriana Locke’s wonderful writing style to the characters and storylines she created to the perfectly cast narration who bring it all to life from the pages to your ears. I can't believe that this is the author’s debut novel, it is impressive how gifted she was from the start. The story drew me right in, grabbing my attention and captivating it through the entire book. The characters are realistic, easy to relate to and connect with, they are likable and easy to care about too. Jada Stanley divorced her controlling and abusive husband and is starting over again, moving in with her sister, Cari, and will work in her father’s real estate business. Then Jada captures Cane Alexander’s attention, a friend of Cari’s friend, Max. But Jada’s ex-husband, Decker, has left her with a back taste in her mouth and she has no interest in men, especially cocky, alpha, bossy men who are players, like Cane. Cane is not used to being turned down and is not about to give up on her. This is something new for Cane and it was great to watch him try to get somewhere with her. There are a lot of layers to this book, besides the romance storyline, Cane’s past is coming back to haunt him and causing trouble for him, his business and threatens those he cares about. Jada’s ex-husband wants her back and stirs things up, too. I loved how everything played out in this wonderfully plotted story, there is plenty of drama, heartfelt emotions, angst, thrilling suspense, and a steamy romance. Adriana Locke, thank you for another amazing story and emotional rollercoaster ride.

🎧📚🎧 And for the fabulous narration, Connor Crais and Samantha Brentmoor are superbly talented narrators and versatile voice artists. They do an amazing job portraying these characters, giving each a voice that suits their character’s persona perfectly, sounding believable in every role they played. Crais nailed Cane’s swoon worthiness and his alpha-tude and Brentmoor grasped every side of Jada’s personality, from her strength to her vulnerabilities. Both were great performing the roles of the secondary characters and handled the witty dialogue with ease. They set the perfect tone for the story, captured all the character’s emotions and projected them into their performance. These entertaining storytellers are a pleasure to listen to and their narration enhanced an already amazing story to another level. Thank you for another exceptional listen.

Cane & Jada!

This is the reason I love Adriana Locke. This book is so good, so easy to relate to and just pure enjoyment! Meet Jada. Recently divorced from Decker, her abusive husband, she is now living with her sister Cari. She has captured the attention of the local player, Cane, a friend of Cari's boyfriend. He has no interest in a relationship, but there is something about Jada that intrigues him. Maybe it's the fact that she is not the least bit interested in a relationship. But there is a definite attraction, and she may not be able to resist the charms of this man for long. Will he be able to keep it casual? Both their pasts come to haunt them, and we get to peel away the many layers to both of these characters. Locke gives us a little suspense at times, keeping the story exciting and our hearts invested. It's fantastic and one of my favorite kind of listens!

To make it even better, Connor Crais and Samantha Brentmoor breathe life into these characters. Understanding each one, giving them the care they deserve and creating their personalities, giving us their feelings and making them real. I loved these two together and loved the performance.
