About this listen

In difficult times, both personally and professionally, Judy Piatkus single handedly built one of the world's most successful, independent book publishing companies in recent years. The Piatkus brand became known worldwide for its success in launching many new authors and dozens of new ideas into a crowded and competitive marketplace.

Working from her spare bedroom, Judy successfully grew the business to become one of the UK's top 25 publishing companies. Funded only by the company's organic growth and as a single parent supporting three young children, one of them with cerebral palsy, she overcame all the obstacles in her path to create a publishing imprint which consistently delivered quality books, season after season.

During this highly inspirational audiobook Judy will show you the importance of always sticking to your core values, how to take well managed risks, and how to successfully innovate your way out of tough times.

An Inspiration

Judy Piatkus?s CD shares invaluable experience from her journey as a highly successful entrepreneur in the book world, founding Piatkus Books and turning into a leading global publishing brand. She discusses the importance of inspiring a positive work culture, of maintaining strong values and aspiring to quality, of intelligent risk taking, and most importantly ? of doing what you love and following your dreams, living them out with total authenticity. This, she concludes from experience, is the secret to a peaceful, happy life.

Sage words

This is a wonderful book, which provides excellent practical advice which I have already started integrating into the way I work.

As well as being inspirational, Judy Piatkus' story provides a robust commercial outlook. I have recommended this book to many friends and colleagues.

Hardly Worth It

This book is just far too short - One Chapter! Does that even count as a book? She is obviously a successful woman but you didn't get to know anything about the specifics of how she managed her life/business/success in hard times, which was what I was expecting. In fact, she hardly mentions hard times apart from that she started the company during a recession and some concern for the reliance of her staff upon her. She talks in short paragraphs punctuated by music, which doesn't create any fluency. She does offer some observations but it would have been nice to have a lot more of that. She sounds an interesting lady - she should have had heaps to talk about.
