About this listen

Book seven of the Ciaphas Cain series

Legendary Commissar Ciaphas Cain joins a group of Reclamators Space Marines aboard a space hulk but soon finds himself alone and faced with both tyranids and orks....

Listen to it because: it's a typically sideways look at the mighty Adeptus Astartes (albeit a pretty unusual chapter), viewing them through the eyes of the wry and dry Commissar Cain.

The story: Commissar Cain is called to duty once more, saving a governor's daughter from a planet overrun by rebels. The uprising hides something far more sinister however - genestealer hybrids! The search for the source of the alien threat leads Cain to a drifting space hulk - a far safer place than beside the obsessed governor's daughter. But when the Reclamator Space Marines suffer devastating losses at the hands of the Great Devourer, Cain and his trusty aide Jurgen must go it alone. With the tyranids waking and a group of stow away orks on the loose, there are no safe places to run or hide, and Cain must use all his ingenuity and cunning to escape the space hulk alive.

Written by Sandy Mitchell. Narrated by Helen McAlpine, Stephen Perring, Penelope Rawlins and Andrew James Spooner.

Great!

One of my favorites of the series. Manages to keep a strong momentum throughout the book.
I will mention that if you expecting a lot of space marine action, you might be a bit disappointed..

Another great Caiphus adventure

I enjoyed the usual entertaining storytelling and the amusing references to Casablanca, Space Hulk, Sherlock Holmes, and the Hitchhikers Guide.

Cain all the way!

A classic Sandy Mitchell book brought to life by excellent narration. Bringing a touch of reality (and humour) to the otherwise depressing 40k universe.

Gripping, Funny and engaging.

Cain is a giga chad. extremely cool, intelligent and down to earth. easier to identify with than allot of 40k stuff.

Just brilliant honestly!

This is my first introduction to the series, and although I read a fair amount of Warhammer books I wasn’t expecting to have enjoyed this one so much only because I’m more interested in the Zenos races to be honest.

All that being said this feels like a really good introduction to not only imperium for a casual reader. It’s also just really well done as an audiobook fantastic voice acting good use of comedy throughout a nice point of view of the other races from Cains perspective.

Are there is the same as I really enjoyed this and I think is anyone else who is interested in Warhammer books should definitely pick this up.

I will say, however, as it’s probably not the best book in the world or that the story is super deep. However, this book isn’t meant to be either of those is good to listen to and really made me want to know more of what I meant to get up to next already itching to buy the next one.

Thanks, Sandym

I am thankful that the Ciaphas series live on. This wasn't the best story, but it was entertaining nontheless. The narrators are great.

A new side of the Commisar

Although not the best story in the series, it’s still nice to see Ciaphas enjoy something else besides amasec and gambling.

Robbed by the ending

Typical good ciaphas cain book but felt robbed bt the ending might as well have been... "and then he woke up"....cut off too soon should have been longer with more action from the astartes towards the end

old days

a story that takes place before many of the ones already told, so we already know much, but still compelling
