About this listen
Tracy Rees's latest novel The Elopement is an elaborately imagined historical novel full of delight and temptation, spanning the luxury and poverty of late Victorian England.
A wealthy heiress . . .
1897. Rowena Blythe is wealthy, entitled and beautiful. As her twenty-fourth birthday approaches, she’s expected to marry – and to marry well.
An unsuitable match . . .
Her parents commission a portrait of Rowena to help cement her reputation as a great society beauty. However, Bartek, the artist’s young assistant, is unlike any man Rowena has met before – wild, romantic and Bohemian. While society at large awaits the announcement of Rowena’s engagement, it is Bartek who captures Rowena’s heart along with her likeness.
A scandal in society . . .
Rowena knows her parents would never approve of Bartek, who in their eyes is nothing but a penniless foreigner. As her feelings grow, she has no-one to turn to. Dare she risk everything for love?

Fabulous!
The wait for a new Tracy Rees novel feels too long, whilst the devouring of it when it does arrive happens all too quickly! One of my favourite authors. I was delighted to realise the admirable and lovely Olive Westallen features heavily in this novel as she did in The Rose Garden. I hope we will hear more from her and the other wonderful pioneering women in the very near future!

Fabulous
Awesome story from the very beginning. The descriptions were so well written that I felt I was there, to the scenery, clothes and even the the dark horrific behaviour almost at times made me tear up as it was so heart breaking. Really hated finishing as it’s always a trial finding my next read.
Can’t wait for the next good read by Tracy Rees. 💖

Another wonderful gem from Tracy Rees.
Story - excellent
Narrator - also excellent.
I have listened to all of Tracy Rees' books, and this one didn't disappoint.
Really interesting characters and a truly heartwarming story. What I didn't realise is that although it can be enjoyed as a stand alone novel, it is actually a sequel to The Rose Garden, which I went back and listened to again before listening to this one.

Disappointing
I’m afraid I did not get into this book like all the others .. it was lacking in story and I was disappointed… I thought more would be made of the nasty Bartec… but it made the story quite flat … I’ll go back and read Amy Snow which is her best book by far ..

Good story but not a fan of computer narration
Don’t like the computerised narration but got used to it enough to enjoy the story. Love that this book was a sequel to another of the authors books that I enjoyed.
