An incredible thriller which will keep you up all night…

Once you start reading you won’t be able to put it down!

The murders have begun…
Across England, a string of murders is taking place. Each different in method, but each horrifying and brutal.

But the killer is just getting started…
Jess Ambrose is plunged into the investigation when her house is set ablaze. With her husband dead and the police pointing at her, she runs. Her only hope is disgraced detective Nate Griffin, who is convinced Jess is innocent.

And he’s going to shock the world…

Fab

Really enjoyed this book, listened over three days. I did guess the plot before the final reveal but didn’t stop me enjoying the thrill!

Gratuitous and cliched.

I found myself rolling my eyes at so many different points of this book. The narration is fine but I don’t see the point of two narrators in this case. With regard to the story itself; it’s cliche after cliche after cliche. I’m a huge fan of Chris Carter’s Robert Hunter series and, if you are familiar with those stories, you’ll know that I’m not adverse to violence in my chosen books. This book, however, is full of graphic descriptions of horrific violence which don’t add very much to the story. I get it, he’s a sadistic copy cat killer but I don’t need repeated wound by wound descriptions. The same can be said of the descriptions of sexual fantasies and actual sexual violence. I’m also not adverse to swearing but so much of it reminded me of teenage boys trying to use the f and c words as much as possible in a conversation with their mates. The actual story is very flawed. There’s no way that the police procedures described would be allowed to happen. No police officer would be allowed to investigate the death of a close relative in reality and that’s just one of several and frequent inaccuracies. The ending was okay but far from mind blowing. I won’t be listening to more from this author.

Ok, if somewhat tedious

A slightly nauseating tale relying on graphic sadism to stumble along.
Needed a bit more than long, repetitive narratives of soul searching introspection to keep the gore from becoming tedious.

Not for me

As a big fan of crime / thriller novels I really wanted to like this as it is well-written and had the potential to be a good story. Unfortunately I just couldn’t see past the completely unrealistic relationship between the main female character and the officer who isn’t an officer. There are just so many things that wouldn’t happen that in the end I gave up.

The Echo Man

I’m almost finished this book and I’m fairly enjoying it but I have to say it really reminds me of my favourite film Se7en…. Okay it’s not got the seven sins or indeed Morgan Freeman but it has the creepy serial killer, note books, lots of gore and a severe twist at the end.

If you have a strong stomach and want something fast paced this is the book for you…it’s an unbelievable debut novel.

Great twist

A great thriller. Spent most of the book trying to guess the killer, little nuggets of evidence sending me one way or other only to finish with a twist I had pretty much ruled out.

This was my first book from this author and they have now jumped onto my must read list.
