Summary
Brought to you by Penguin.
In the early morning hours of 6th November 1943, SS Reichsfuhrer Heinrich Himmler, receives the coded message he has been waiting for, 'the Eagle has landed.'
It was to become known as the most daring enemy mission of the entire war: Operation Eagle, Himmler's audacious plan to kidnap Winston Churchill on British soil.
But, despite spectacular secrecy, there was to be no surrender without a fight....
For in that remote corner of Norfolk, an elite unit is gathered together. Ready to do battle for a nation against the most ruthless taskforce ever assembled.

Relieved.
The Eagle Has Landed is one of my most favourite war films, I have visited the film location several times too, so I was more than a little worried that listening to the book wouldn’t live up to it. I really needn’t have worried at all. It’s so well written, putting you right there-the detail is fantastic. The performance is also extremely worthy of such an amazing story, with with fantastic characterisations that really bring them to life, which is why this is the first listen that has received a full house of stars from me. Overall a fantastic book and a great performance that just enhances my love for the film. Well done.

Still Enthralling After All These years
I first read the Eagle Has Landed as a young child and was mesmerized by the story and totally shocked when I discovered it was true! So I was a bit hesitant to get the audio version in case it didn't live up to my expectations or even spoiled the book for me ... but I'm glad I eventually got it.
The audiobook is an absolutely brilliant version of this classic WWII page-turner.
If I had one small criticism it would be Liam Devlin's accent. In the beginning of the book the accent is a cross between a Southern Irish accent and a Belfast (North Irish) accent. The accent, of course, should be a Northern Irish accent (not the Southern Irish accent Donald Sutherland has in the film).
As the story progresses the narrator, Peter Noble, does get better at this and the accent does get stronger. American listeners won't be able to tell the difference but as this accent has gained more common usage on TV I think most Scottish and Welsh listeners will be able to tell the difference while the English just won't care ;) .
Noble does a great job throughout though. And, it goes with saying that the story is fantastic, as is the writing style.
This book is a must-read/must-listen for anyone who has even a slight interest in history, WWII or even the Irish Troubles.
