About this listen

How well do you really know your neighbours?

In a converted Georgian townhouse in South West London, three families live under one roof.

The large flat that takes up the top two floors is home to the Harlow family: happily married Paul and Steph and their bubbly teenage daughter, Freya. The smaller first floor flat is rented by Emma, who spends most of her time alone, listening to people coming in and out of the building. And the basement flat belongs to Chris, a local driving instructor, who prefers to keep his personal life private from the neighbours.

But their lives are all upended when Freya vanishes. As the police become involved and a frantic Paul and Steph desperately search for answers, they begin to realise that the truth behind their daughter's disappearance may lie closer to home than they were expecting.

When everyone has something to hide, can you ever really know those closest to you? Or will some secrets be taken to the grave?

No Wow factor

A very well written book but not one I'd put in my favourites section :)

no idea what actually happened

I love an audio book. I have a brain injury which means I can't actually read anymore, but as a previous bookworm I probably finish a 30 hour audio book a week. .. saying that, I genuinely have no idea what happened In this book. the overall story was good if not a bit convoluted, and the narration was great. but despite many rewinds, I can honestly say I have no idea what actually happened...

Book Review

The Downstairs Neighbour - Helen Cooper

5/5

I don't normally get on very well with multi pov books however this one flowed so well I really enjoyed it. I won't say too much as I don't want to ruin anything for anyone who wants to read the book in the future.

There was a lot of twists and turns and surprises in this book which I really enjoyed as it meant I couldn't work out how it was going to end!! The details were amazing, I went like I was in the story at times.

I highly recommend this book for anyone who enjoys suspense thrillers. This is another genre I will now be looking into more and definitely this author

Incredible debut!

An excellent mystery thriller with so many twists and turns you’ll see double, and all of them are delivered with expertise and subtlety. With so many characters populating this novel it is a testament to the author that there was no sense of being overwhelmed as we jump between them, each one clearly defined and motivated. The pieces of this puzzle slot neatly together by the end and I cannot praise it enough. The Downstairs Neighbour is a MUST BUY!

Huh?

This book seemed unnecessarily busy and complicated and I'm not sure why. Maybe too many characters, and added to that, the story often flashes back in time and then back to present day. Quite a few times throughout the book I kept thinking what is going on?….and I was actively listening (or I thought I was). At least the end is fairly simple.
