Summary

The docks are a scary place for Jane Parker, her mother, and young brother after her father dies suddenly. Rough men and danger lurk in the night. Tragedy continues to strike the family when Jane is almost attacked, and her mother and brother take ill.

As her world collapses, Jane finds work as a dockside maid, happy to be off of the London streets. As the years pass by, Jane is unaware of the danger that is following her. When she meets the kind Hugh Brewer, she believes her heartache days are over when he offers her a maid position.

In her new attic room, Jane feels the lightness return to her heart, although that is most likely due to the feelings she has developed for Hugh. But, Hugh keeps his relationship with Jane professional until tragedy strikes; Jane disappears, and a frightened Hugh risks everything to find her.

Can Hugh find Jane before events from her past destroy her future and her life?
