Summary
Jacob
My father is dying, and I’ve been called back to Brooklyn to take my place as the head of the Italian syndicate. After a seven-year absence, my first test of loyalty is to marry the granddaughter of the Irish mob’s leader. I may not want a wife, but I’ll kill anyone who tries to harm her.
I only hope she doesn’t expect love in our marriage. I can’t—won’t—love her. Not ever. I don’t have it in me.
Brenna
My life has always been about duty. When my grandfather signs a marriage contract, I become a pawn in an alliance between the Irish and the Italians. Once again, I’m bound by duty.
I’ve always been invisible—the person who fades into the background—except soon my new husband begins to see me.
He’s a Brooklyn king, but will our enemies destroy my chance to become his queen?

Great start
This was an intense story, full of family, duty, marriage and betrayal.
Brenna is such a badass, she’s willing to be strong given her circumstances.
Jacob is not to be messed with.
I hope we get more of these two. Their chemistry was Fire!

I enjoyed the dual narration of Eva Caine and Walker Williams
Jacob and Brennan find themselves in arranged marriage between the Irish and the Italian mafia to strengthen their fight against the Russians. The Russians are one step ahead of them and have an insider within their Mafia. Violence some steamy scenes and action

Great Story & Narration🎧 Captivating & Original!
I enjoyed this book immensely, it is a fantastic mafia romance and a fantastic start to a new series. It was my first book by LK Shaw and she is an impressive and gifted author with a wonderful writing style, she created an original story with interesting characters that are realistic, easy to connect with and easy to care about and yes, maybe even fall for. Emilio ‘Jacob’ Ricci moved out of state to separate himself from the mafia world, but when he gets the call to return home and the time has come where he will do what he was born to do, become the head of the Italian Mafia nicknamed the Brooklyn Kings. As a power play, he agrees to an arranged marriage with the granddaughter of the head of the Irish Mafia, Brenna Donnelly. This alliance is important because the Russian have been gaining strength in NY. As a mafia princess Brenna always knew it would be her duty to marry who ever her family wanted her to but living a fairly sheltered life did not prepare her for a man like Jacob, especially since he is handling this marriage as if it is only a business transaction and seemed to want nothing to do with her at first. We learn why and his reason for having a hardened heart, but Brenna gets him out of his own head and softens that heart and it was great to watch. I loved how everything played out in this book, it is a cleverly plotted story that captivated my attention from start to end. There is great world building and I am looking forward to return to this mafia world and to see what happens next in the series. L.K. Shaw, thank you for this amazing story, the wild and emotional rollercoaster ride.
🎧📚🎧 And for the terrific narration, Eve Caine and Walker Williams were the perfect cast to bring these characters to life, and they did so with the complete understanding of who these characters were, gave each a voice that fit their character’s persona to a tee. Even Caine was fabulous as Brenna grasped all sides of her personality, from her wit, to her insecurities, to her strength. Walker Williams nailed it as Jacob, starting off as the hardened alpha, and eventually showed his true caring self. Both were great performing the roles of the secondary characters too. They set the perfect tone for the story, captured all the character’s emotions and projected them into their performance and have you feeling every single one. These entertaining storytellers are versatile voice artists and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for this fantastic listen.

Captivating mafia listen
The Devil I Don’t Know, book 1 in The Brooklyn Kings Series
This was my first book by this author and I really enjoyed her storytelling. I will definitely be looking for more audios from this series.
Jacob and Brenna are forced into an arranged marriage to help their families come together as a stronger front. From strangers to lovers, I loved how their relationship flourished. Jacob was patient, kind, and protective from day one. This is a mild mafia romance but still had its moments and talks of past events. Side characters were very intriguing and I’m looking forward to their stories!
Eve Caine and Walker Williams were enjoyable narrators who did really well pulling me into the characters and story.

Great Mafia Romance!
The Devil I Don't Know, the first book in the Brooklyn Kings series is a wonderfully written Mafia Arranged Marriage Romance. The storyline is intriguing, gritty, suspenseful, wrapped in intensity, scorching hot steam, and passion. The main characters are well-developed, appealing, and authentic. Jacob is the self-exiled heir to the Italian Mob family, and Brenna is the Irish Mob boss's sheltered granddaughter. Their marriage is an alliance between two powerful gangster families, and neither is pleased with the arrangement, particularly Brenna.
Brenna had experienced her grandfather's violence and brutality and feared her new husband would be just like him. Jacob has to prove his loyalty as he assumes his father's reign while dealing with the rival Russian mafia and the threat of encroachment. Forced together by duty to their families, they must find acceptance and tolerance. What neither expected were the fierce attraction and electrifying chemistry. I genuinely enjoyed their story, the drama, and the ups and downs as they got to know each other and found comfort and love.
Excellent performances by Eva Caine and Walker Williams. They both did an outstanding job depicting the characters' personalities and emotions, making the story even more engaging. The Devil I Don't Know was an enjoyable listen and a fantastic start to the Brooklyn Kings series. I'm definitely recommending this audiobook.

My Thoughts on The Devil I Don't Know
This was all kinds of mafia romance goodness. I was drawn in pretty much right away. And the more I listened, the more I loved. Both main characters were likable and I especially liked the strength Brenna showed throughout the story. She stood up for herself and spoke her mind to her husband even when other mafia wives wouldn’t have. Jacob was equally easy to love. The moment he first stood up for Brenna clinched it for me and then he has so many more excellent moments after.
The narration matched the actual story for me in enjoyment. Both narrators had great tones for the main characters and did a good job changing things up when they needed to for the secondary characters as well. Overall, this was a fantastic listen and one I would highly recommend.

Alpha Hole Romance 🌶️🔥❤️
The story starts with Brenna being rejected by her first love Jacob. We fast forward 10 years and the story really picks up. Jacob is mafia, possessive, and doesn't understand the word no. He oozes danger mixed with some spice. Brennan is soft and at times you want to shake her. The story flows well and will keep you engaged. I love the side characters.
The narrators were good and I love Walker's voice.
I'm now moving on to Book Two 🔥❤️🌶️
