About this listen
Flora had a difficult start in life. Poverty and ill health meant she had to be treated with tender loving care. This however would be tested throughout her life and in no small measure in the area of love.
“Please! Help my bairn!” A mother’s voice cried as her husband carried their young daughter in their arms. The woman looked up from the clothes she was washing, seeing that they were from the Fraser clan by the tartan they wore. Taking one look at the girl bundled in her father’s arms, she knew that she was extremely ill. “Bring her back here and I will call the healer. What is her name?” The woman jumped into action, gesturing to a small house across the swaying fields of oats. “Her name is Flora Fraser.” The gentleman replied quickly. “We just thought that she had a wee fever,” The mother said wringing her hands, “Then she stopped eating, then she started coughing, we’ve tried everything! Please save her!” she cried. “The healer will do what she can. She will be here shortly.” Flora woke up from her dream, recalling the day as a child when her parents took her to the healer all those years ago. The healer had said that she had a terrible respiratory illness that had no name.
