About this listen

Bunny Munro sells beauty products and the dream of hope to lonely housewives along the south coast of England. Set adrift by his wife's sudden death and struggling to keep a grip on reality, he does the only thing he can think of - with his young son in tow, he hits the road.

While Bunny plies his trade and sexual charisma door-to-door, nine-year-old Bunny Junior sits patiently in the car, exploring the world through the pages of his encyclopaedia. As their bizarre and increasingly frenzied road trip shears into a final reckoning, Bunny finds that the ghosts of his world - decrepit fathers, vengeful lovers, jealous husbands and horned psycho-killers - have emerged from the shadows and are seeking to exact their toll.

A tender portrait of the relationship between father and son, The Death of Bunny Munro is a stylish, angry and hugely enjoyable listen, bursting with the wit and mystery that fans will recognise as hallmarks of Cave's singular vision.

This unabridged audiobook uses a groundbreaking 3D audio-spatial mix, specifically designed for listening on headphones, creating a fully immersive experience for the listener. The 3D and spatialised sound was created by Terence Caulkins, Ryan Biziorek, Anne Guthrie, and Raj Patel at Arup Acoustics.

This original soundtrack by Nick Cave and Warren Ellis was produced and sound-directed by Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard.

Critic reviews

"Put Cormac McCarthy, Franz Kafka and Benny Hill together in a Brighton seaside guesthouse and they might just come up with Bunny Munro. A compulsive read possessing all Nick Cave's trademark horror and humanity." (Irvine Welsh)
"Not just a wonderful read, it's also a heartbreaking one. Cave writes novels like he does lyrics, with strokes of blood and sulphur and lightning. He strikes at the mind and heart and is able to bring his readers to his knees." (Neil LaBute)
"Cocksman, Salesman, Deadman; Bunny Munro might not be Everyman, but every man ought to read this book. And read it half in stitches, half in tears." (David Peace)

Great performance with atmospheric music

Enjoyed this dark tale and the lead character struggling to keep it together.
I emphasised with him and all helped by the strong performance of Nick cave and carefully put together music soundtracking.

One of the darkest books I have ever read. Loved every depraved bit of it!

So depraved but so engaging. This is one sick, dark book but I just found it so fascinating

Favourite book

This is the third time I’ve listened to The Death of Bunny Munro and it won’t be the last. It’s become my favourite book and is perfect from start to finish.

Rollercoaster

Please ignore the pathetic comments and negative reviews. This book was chosen for my ,all male, book group and was very well liked. Get set for a fast paced debauched ride that is mesmeric.

unlikeable main character

Struggled to stick with it as the main character is very pleasant and made my skin crawl and my stomach turn in parts. Always enjoy listening to Nick narrate. Enjoyed the ending

This story will stay with you

It took me a while to get into the rather dry delivery by the author but was very soon sucked into a darkly humorous and truly disturbing world. I feel like my atoms have been reordered!

Stunning. Combining many of Nicks talents

The best audio book I've come across so far. It's a work of art! Dark, mysterious and quite messed up.

Brilliant, I loved it

The best audiobook I have listened to. The combination of the storyline, the atmospheric music and Nick Cave’s narration had me transfixed. I finished it quickly, it was absolutely unputdownable. I won’t spoil it for you, apart from saying if you are at all prudish you might want to give it a miss. Otherwise, enjoy - you won’t regret buying it.

As dark as you may expect from Mr Cave

Not an uplifting listen by any means, but the story moves on at pace and Cave’s narration is good (although does take a while to get used to).
