Summary
A cop, a pot-bellied pig, and an undertaker know something is a foot.
Sgt. Betty Bruce is having a bad day.
Three bizarre deaths and a confession that isn’t a confession…
A severed foot in a sneaker that her pot-bellied pig won’t give up...
A body of a young woman dubbed the Painted Lady has just washed up on shore…
A young detective with an itchy trigger finger tasered her father’s cow and the locals want to lynch him.
Her dead boyfriend willed her his house…and she has been told to stay out of the way of Chief Inspector Tom Powder.
Chief Inspector Tom Powder’s day isn’t much better.
His partner has ruffled everyone’s feathers…
The cases are all stale…
He can’t find any evidence at the house of Betty’s beau, Andy McDowell, to discover what set the man off…and he is drawn into Betty’s other investigations for no other reason than respect for the sergeant herself.
The key to solving the cases hides within the pages of Tiffany Hyde-White’s strange novel, The Dastardly Mr. Deeds. In the end, it is up to Betty to unravel the mystery, no matter the cost.

A story within a story
I enjoyed this book. This is book two and you definitely need to have read or listened to the first and as well as get the next book in the series. The series started with a number of murders which we thought we're solved in the first but with book two we learn things are not as they seem and the investigation continues. I think this is going to be along running mystery through out the series because the side story gets solved but the main is left on a cliff hanger, hence the need to get the next book.I like the small town setting were everybody knows each other and animal mischief is a reason for laughing. You have got to love the pets in this series. The side mystery is solved by reading a story written by a previous murdered character, so the story does jump a bit as it introduces new characters. There is also a touch of sy-fi in this story with the introduction of a ghost that tries to help solve her own murder. I did enjoy the book but found it slowed down in the middle. It is worth sticking with it and I am looking forward to the third book.
Sgt Betty Bruce can't except that her boyfriend tried to kill her but when a young woman's body washes up on the shore, she has to let Chief Inspector Tom Powder take over the case. Then her pot-bellied pig finds a shoe with a foot still inside and she finds she has two cases on her hand, as it's not the first time the grizzly discovery has been made. She gets some unexpected help by reading a dead friends book, did she solve the mystery behind the washed up feet? And if so can Betty solve both of her cases in time to help the Chief inspector with the cold case involving her friends?
I liked the narrator. She once again put in a good performance making it an entertaining listen.
