About this listen

Most famous for his tales of crimes and deduction, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle also had a passion for suspense, the supernatural, and the macabre. This is most clearly demonstrated in his collection of gothic short stories.

The stories featured in this audiobook include: "The Captain of The Polestar", "B.24", and "The Lost Special". Get ready for Doyle’s vivid, spine-tingling imagination to unnerve and thrill you in equal measure!

Wonderful stories

I have downloaded three of these Doyle collections, and they always satisfy. This collection is no different. Wonderfully read, the opening story is set in arctic conditions, with a ship ice locked, and haunted. The Scottish language is bang on, as you would expect from Doyle. And listen out for the reference to Sherlock Holmes' famous observation on deduction. It draws out the suspense deliciously, never leaving you lagging. If you like arctic adventure, then this opening story is for you.
