Summary

Superstitions only survive if people believe in them...

Renowned academic Dr Sparling seeks help with his project on a remote Irish village. Historical researchers Ben and Chloe are thrilled to be chosen—until they arrive...

The village is isolated and forgotten. There is no record of its history, its stories. There is no friendliness from the locals, only wary looks and whispers. The villagers lock down their homes at sundown. A nameless fear stalks the streets...

Nobody will talk—nobody except one little girl. Her story strikes dread into the hearts of the newcomers. Three times you see him. Each night he comes closer...

That night, Ben and Chloe see a sinister figure watching them. He is the Creeper. He is the nameless fear in the night. Stories keep him alive. And nothing will keep him away...

The Creeper is a masterful tale of horror and suspense, by one of Ireland's most talented emerging authors.

Fantastic!

This was creepy and scary and I thought the end was surprising! The only minor thing that bothered me was that the historian was doing a folklorist’s job, and Ireland has a lot of folklorists!

Good but fell at the final hurdle.

Great little tale. Likeable protagonists. Very creepy but petered out at the end and felt a bit unsatisfying.

Excellent

After reading his other book “The Watxhers” and really enjoying it, I was intrigued to see how this would be. Really excellent. Great narration, great characters, original story, scary, dark and I love the fact that it’s Irish and based in a fictional part of Ireland. So we have 2 great horror authors now here in Ireland (that I’m aware of, and I read and listen to a lot of horror)
A M Shine and Kealan Patrick Burke.

The narration

Listened over over over and over. Great book to fall asleep with, then enjoy again in the waking hours as it was so interesting

decent all rounder

good story, well written and scary or at least gripping. the narrator is very good too. Although, the author seems to have got bored with the cop storyline.

Solid modern folk horror thriller

A very enjoyable take on folk horror tropes. Clearly defined characters, a good escalation of the tension, and a decent ending. Unlikely to blow you away, but a good tale, well told, and I'd be happy to recommend it to others.

Worth a read but disappointing ….

I LOVED the watchers and literally couldn’t wait to read this,
It was a slow burner for me compared to his other book which hooked me straight away.
I did get in to though only to be really let down towards the end as the story unfolds.
Ending seemed rushed and not thought out at all, and to be quite honest makes absolutely no sense at all.
The more I thought about it afterwards the more flaws appeared.
However after saying all of that(!) it is still worth a read 😊

Good premise, good start, very poor ending,

I was drawn into the story at first band thought that the premise was good, however it began to fall apart, during the concluding chapters, almost as if the writer struggled to find a fitting ending and just came up with what can only be described as, poorly contrived. As other reviewers have said the number of holes in the plot at this point let the whole tale down, I have admit to being sorely dissapointed with what at first promised to be a very good story.
