Brilliant

Would you listen to The Complete Sherlock Holmes again? Why?

Yes - In fact after listening to it for a second time currently (after a 4 month gap) as they are the kind of stories you can listen to time and time again!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Sherlock obviously - brilliant character and Watson is just a little to stupid to be a favourite!

Which character – as performed by Simon Vance – was your favourite?

All brilliantly done - you can tell the different characters by the voices

Any additional comments?

Hours of entertainment - only issue is that it isn't easy to skip between stories! But as these are all in order of publishing its nice to listen to in the order

This book is amazing value for 1 credit

If you could sum up The Complete Sherlock Holmes in three words, what would they be?

Beautiful, atmospheric, cosy

Who was your favorite character and why?

The narrator is the best I have heard, he brings Sherlock Holmes to life so very very well.

Which character – as performed by Simon Vance – was your favourite?

This is the best narration I have heard on audible yet, Im not joking, his Sherlock is damn near perfect!

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Spooky, cosy and entirely indulgent!

Any additional comments?

If you are wavering like I did, read all the other reviews, I agree entirely that this is a fantastic performance that had me constantly longing for the next story. They are short stories which are perfect for commutes and folk like me, sat outside of martial arts, drama, football waiting for kids! Guarantees that regular smile at the end of a story over and over.Perfect if you don't feel like a long, heavy audible listen, each new chapter is refreshing and like a whole new audible book You can probably tell... I LOVED IT

A Mammoth Undertaking - Brilliantly executed

Would you listen to The Complete Sherlock Holmes again? Why?

Some stories yes. It's a long listen!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Holmes himself. Well executed and with more depth than initially understood.

Have you listened to any of Simon Vance’s other performances? How does this one compare?

No

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Elementary but excellent

Any additional comments?

These stories do not date. It is fascinating to see how well constructed they are over such a formidable canon of volumes.

Excellent - much enjoyed!

Any additional comments?

It is remarkable that whatever format you experience the Sherlock Holmes stories they are still a thumping good yarn, with bags of atmosphere and character. Will we ever tire of them?!

This is a terrific 58 hour audiobook - and a snip at the price. Simon Vance does a terrific job - and doesn't not over act or "ham up" his performance. However - despite this being called "The complete Sherlock Holmes" I only seem to have 42 short stories and 4 novels - not the 56 short stories and 4 novels that were written. Either my download had a problem - or this isn't really The *Complete* Sherlock Holmes. I am therefore forced to take off one star in the "Overall" category. (Apologies if the explanation for the missing stories was merely a technical problem from my end.)

I much enjoyed this version, but my view, remains that the best audio version ever made was by the BBC, featuring Clive Merrison as Holmes and Michael Williams as Watson. Together they recorded all the stories in the canon between 1989 and 1998. Alas, I only have it on cassette tape, so it's very inconvenient for me to listen to these days. This version is a delightful and convenient alternative.

Brilliant Narration!

I thought I would listen to this in between other books as it was very long but I ended up listening to the whole 58 hours. Great sories, beautifully written and the best narration I have heard of any stories since I have been on audible.

Sensational!

How brilliant to find all the Sherlock Holmes tales together. Many enjoyable hours of addictive intrigue! Each chapter is seperate and subheaded for ease of navigation - particularly handy if you fall asleep listening like I do!
Narrator was excellent, bringing individual characters to life and making it easy to discern the back and forth between Holmes and Watson. As well as thrill and mystery, there's a generous slosh of humour to be had in the writing. This was deftly voiced, so I frequently found myself laughing out loud. :) To those embarking, enjoy!

Top 5

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Complete Sherlock Holmes?

In over 58 hours of listening it is very difficult to pick out a couple of moments, but Study in Scarlet certainly gets us off to a great start.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, particularly because of the excellent performance.

Any additional comments?

This is a massive book of work and inevitably thinner in some spots than others but awesome in the proper sense of the word.
