About this listen

London, 1945. The capital is the backdrop for many struggling with demons unleashed by the recent World War. Maisie Dobbs is drawn into the story of a group of squatters, including an ill demobbed soldier, who have set up camp in the Belgravia mansion of her former in-laws Lord and Lady Julian Compton. Her attempt to help brings to light a decades-old mystery that concerns her first husband, James Compton, who was killed while flying an experimental fighter aircraft. The deeply personal inquiry leads her to the second man, who is fighting the darkness of his own conscience following a secret mission.

It is an investigation that will challenge so much of what Maisie understands about her life and forces her to look at the past and the many mirrors that could have been reflecting something other than she had come to believe was truth.

Excellent ending to the Maisie Dobbs series

Although it was sad to say goodbye to Maisie I thought it was the best book in the series. All the loose ends were so well tied up and it felt like everyone was set for a happy future leaving all their ghosts behind.

A good ending to the series

Just what one has come to expect from Maisie Dobbs. Several threads woven together that come to a fine conclusion. A good read, just like the previous books in the series.

Moving On

It's always interesting that at the end of conflict, if you seize the opportunities presented to you, you can learn from the struggles and move on strengthened.
Maisie Dobbs, my favourite psychologist and investigator, is the epitome of all things just and true. At the end of the second world war, Maisie, wraps up the past and envelopes those around her into moving on into a new era in the way that only the inimitable Maise Dobbs can do.
I listened to this on audible and enjoyed every minute.

The Comfort of Ghosts

A fitting conclusion of the Maisie Dobbs series. I liked the tieing up of loose ends. It all made sense.
