About this listen
What happens when you strike a deal with baseball's most talented pitcher? You slip a plastic ring on his finger and say, "I do."
Quirky meets broody in this laugh-out-loud, romantic comedy from best-selling author, Kristy Marie.
The tattoo down his forearm reads: My power is perfected in weakness. It inspires bad decisions in everyone who crosses his path.
Not me though, I’ve made worse decisions before breakfast.
Marrying baseball phenom Cooper Lexington for his health insurance...doesn’t even rank top five.
But I can’t afford to lose this marriage by falling in love.
You see, I made a promise to myself - one I plan on keeping...even if it ruins us.
The Closer is a full-length stand-alone romantic comedy. It features crossover characters from the best-selling novel, IOU.

Heartwarming
Heartwarming and fun. Listened to and thoroughly enjoyed the audiobook. The marriage of convenience trope is a favorite of mine. Enjoyed the way Mac and Cooper’s relationship developed and Pops part in it all. Really liked Cooper’s character - Mac’s character was harder to relate to. Excellent voices by the narrators, although much too slow at 1x speed to keep my attention - listened at 1.8 speed.

it just hits different listening to it.
OK so I've read the story and my review still stands. My thoughts are no different in terms of the characters and their journey but it is a different experience listening to their journey. I feel like putting a voice to characters and hearing that emotion just transcends you to a different world and I felt totally consumed in their world.
I love Heather and Connor on this book. The way they tell the story of Cooper and Mac is just perfect. Every emotion is palpable and with such an emotionally driven story it's only made it all the more real for the reader. What a duo and what a book. I'll say it again having read it a few times and listened it to aswell.... this story is pure magic. Kristy is a word wizard and smashed it out the park once again here.
I don't know what I expected. I mean I expected to a degree Cooper to be the goofy wind up little brother we got a sneak peak at in IOU, his brother Maverick and Ainsley's book.
But it could not have been any more different.
Before you think something crazy, Cooper does still have his sharp witt and groofy side but his story is not like his brothers, not even a little.
Cooper shoulders every burden, takes on every responsibility and holds himself accountable for everything damn thing. That's a whole lot of pressure for a young man who worked hard and achieved his dreams but isn't living the life you'd think he should be. He from young age has cared for his beloved pops. Nothing else mattered but doing what was right for pop's. Even when pop's stacked the odds against him. Cooper isn't all sunshine and rainbows. He's tired and stretched thin so he's a little cranky and a whole lot of stubborn but ... this man. I swear he's a freaking saint. So sweet. Loyal beyond belief. He was a breath of fresh air with his genuine honesty and deep rooted compassion. I loved him, more than Mav... more than any male character Kristy has graced us with.
Mac aka Mckinley is a hot mess in deep waters with no life raft. This woman is treading rock bottom and it hurt my soul because lord she was trying. I felt a deep sense of relatablility to her character. She suffered unimaginable loss which was essentially just the beginning of her heartbreak. Now at a point where life just continues to kick her, she is trying to do better, trying to not rely on anyone and be anyone's burden. The poor woman could not catch a break. I appreciated the raw reality of loss and the true effects it had on her mental health. She was honest maybe to a fault... she was so sweet and absolutely hilarious. And her and pop's... lord they were trouble with a capital T together.
There journey is fascinating because its almost three journies rolled into one. You have Mckinleys person journey of loss, overcoming and acceptance. You have Coopers personal journey of the struggles of juggling, the guilt and the stubbornness and learning to accept some help. And then you have their journey together. A marriage of convenience. A friends to lovers epic tale of being unable to fight the undeniable connection despite the hot mess that is their personal lives. It at times was a heavy read with heartbreaking situations and real anguish. But there is also that undeniable chemistry that burns so bright between Mac and Coop. There is the hilarious bickering and banter between them that had me falling in hard in love with their love. Honestly their story was so unexpected but holy appreciated in every way. They become eachothers crutch through life and it happened so naturally despite all the crazy that it was impossible to not fall in love with these characters and be totally consumed in their turbulent journey.
It would be a disservice to not mention the main man of the show, Pop's. The heart of the story and the backbone of these characters. A cranky old man with nothing but time to wind everyone he sees fit up. A trouble maker who's stubbornness gets him in one to many hot spots on many occasions. He is fanfreakingtastic. Him and Mac together getting upto no good just fulfilled me with so much happiness I can't even. His relationship with Cooper and even Mav is something so special. He melts my black soul mun.
This book hits in so many ways emotionally. It's a journey with so many layers and so much to give and with characters that are so well developed. It kept surprising me, kept breaking my heart and kept making me love them harder than I thought I could. I laughed till it hurt, I cried like a blubbering baby and I swooned at all the sweetness. Coop and Mac took me through the ringer but it was so worth it.
Honestly I could gush all day about my love for their love. I'm so sad it had to finish. It's so so good. But what a way to finish. That ending.... oh I was so damn satisfied.
Now I'm in a state of depression waiting on what's next from kristy and her crazy characters. At this point I don't care as long as it comes soon.... I need my next fix!!!.

The Closer is a fantastic read and played complete havoc with my heart.
Honestly Cooper is one of the Swooniest characters I have ever read.
The way he talked to Mack the things he said to her and the way he took care of her was the sweetest most romantic thing.
