About this listen
Thor has broken the sword Tyrfing so that it cannot strike at the roots of Yggdrasil, the tree that binds together earth, heaven, and hell. But now the mighty sword is needed again to save the elves in their war against the trolls, and only Skafloc, a human child kidnapped and raised by the elves, can hope to persuade Bölverk the ice-giant to make Tyrfing whole again. But Skafloc must also confront his shadow self, Valgard the changeling, who has taken his place in the world of men.

Mature take on high fantasy
It is a refreshing change from juvenile generic fantasy that is the usual fair.

it's free, so can't complain too much
well narrated, some nice ideas, story rolls along ok, sensible avoidance of excessive technology descriptions, good character differentiation, nice development of relationships and interpersonal dynamics, touching on places, though main character bit of a whinger with a tendency toward petulant hysteria. good overall. recommended.

Brilliant. Tolkien's Heavy Metal Jungian Shadow.
I highly recommend this and enjoyed it immensely. There was so much packed into this and it was written in such an epic manner. I am certainly happy that I did notice back in those times, and appreciate the world that Christianity has made for us.
The Narrator was very good and performed admirably but I think an English accent would have suited the story far better. This didn't take away from how great this story is.

The narration lets it down
A decent story but let down by the narration. The accents were awful to the point of almost being funny

A classic
Full of classic tropes, this book takes a look at the darker side of human nature, making the reader empathise with the worst characters as well as the best, truly an interesting read

Poor performance
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
Use a British English speaker rather then an American one.
Would you be willing to try another book from Poul Anderson? Why or why not?
I like Poul Anderson and have read very many of his books, so I was looking forward to this.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
This is supposed to be an English faery tale. I could overlook the American accent of the narrator - just - but the moment he tried to imitate an English accent was like being hit with a bucket of icewater. Very, very poor.
You didn’t love this book--but did it have any redeeming qualities?
Don't know - I had to give up after just one chapter.
