About this listen

What if you fell in love with the one person you’d sworn to destroy?

Lara has only one thought for her husband on their wedding day: I will bring your kingdom to its knees. A princess trained from childhood to be a lethal spy, Lara knows that the Bridge Kingdom represents both legendary evil - and legendary promise. The only route through a storm-ravaged world, the Bridge Kingdom controls all trade and travel between lands, allowing its ruler to enrich himself and deprive his enemies, including Lara’s homeland. So when she is sent as a bride under the guise of fulfilling a treaty of peace, Lara is prepared to do whatever it takes to fracture the defenses of the impenetrable Bridge Kingdom.

But as she infiltrates her new home - a lush paradise surrounded by tempest seas - and comes to know her new husband, Aren, Lara begins to question where the true evil resides. Around her, she sees a kingdom fighting for survival, and in Aren, a man fiercely protective of his people. As her mission drives her to deeper understanding of the fight to possess the bridge, Lara finds the simmering attraction between her and Aren impossible to ignore. Her goal nearly within reach, Lara will have to decide her own fate: Will she be the destroyer of a king or the savior of her people?

Great story can we do without the crude sex though?

I’ve enjoyed all three books, the concept and story driving me to keep listening. But I wonder how many chapters of this trilogy are just base graphic sexual descriptions. Ok we get they are super in Earth shaking love, but it feels a bit too much like padding the length of the book out rather than actually adding to the story. Unless you are appealing to a non story centric market I guess. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Great book.

I couldn't stop listening, I finished it in a day. This is my first Danielle Jensen and I didn't regret it. The characters have depth and it was easy to fall in love with them. Lots of suspense too. The narrators did the story justice, I swear James Cronin sounds exactly like Joe Arden (am a fan) . The storm at the start of every chapter can be a little disconcerting but no damage to the whole experience. Anyway on to book 2.

fab

I really enjoyed it. I struggled at first, going between characters, but I think it really builds up both sides and points of view. Brilliant series.

A good enemies to lovers book

A good fantasy book. I always like a good enemies to lovers story line. I really liked the plot of Lara being raised an assassin and spy and then being set loose into the world of the Bridge Kingdom. It’s a plot I’ve read lots of time before but I don’t really grow tired of it. I really liked the world of Ithicana and how the people survived the constant storms, and invasions. Also I like the politics of the world too. It wasn’t overly heavy, it’s just the right amount to add an extra element of tension
Also I really like Lara. Yes, she’s an amazing fighter, beautiful etc etc, like every fantasy female main character but she wasn’t snarky, she’s quick witted but not snarky. I love a good back and forth snarky banter between the enemies before they realise they can’t live without each other as much as the next person but it was refreshing to read their conversations. I did think Aren fell for Lara too quickly but really that’s only a slight complaint.
Could I see lots of things coming, yes but that did not stop my enjoyment. Looking forward to listening to the next book.

Gripping from start to finish

This book was so good. Straight out the gate with murder and betrayal, a solid storyline with great world building and characters. cliffhanger at the end leaves me downloading the next book.

Great fantasy story

Having not read or listened to this author before, I gave this book a listen and I'm so glad I did! Great well paced story, good world building and character development. The story really pulled me in and both the narrators did an awesome job. Loved it.

Incredible!

I absolutely loved this story! It took me a few chapters to get used to the males voice, but everything about the storyline was perfect! Action, romance and a strong woman!

Really enjoyable book

I found this really enjoyable, only didn’t give it 5 stars because it was a little predictable in places, so annoying
