Continuity errors everywhere but still enjoyable

I have been a bit addicted to the books in this series since moving away from Edinburgh, it fills the gap in my heart for this city.

As I have read them all now I obviously enjoy them but it is quite frustrating when as a long standing reader you are constantly going over old plot points and also there are hundreds of continuity errors in the series combined. I think he forgets what he has written in the earlier books!

Engaging and amusing

The snobbery and kindness of Edinburgh never fails to amuse in AMSmith's books.
Cheering Bertie on from the sidelines👍🏻

I can't get enough of these books.

David Rintoul is brilliant at narrating these audiobooks.
Great story that can be hilarious at times and also have you crying your eyes out too.You just grow to love the characters like they were real people.

I'd give 10* if I could!

Any additional comments?

As an Edinburghensian, though one who has lived away from her native city for too long, I found this book to be an undiluted pleasure. The author obviously loves the city with all its foibles. Bertie, despite a constant barrage from his dreadful mother and the equally awful Olive, manages to retain his essential sweetness and optimism, helped by his pleasant, if weak, father and his delightful grandmother and most of the regular inhabitants of Scotland Street and its environs appear to contribute to the gentle humour which had me smiling through nearly all the book. The narration by David Rintoul is an added plus and is worth several stars on its own!

What's not to love about Alexander McCall Smith?

The characters in 44 Scotland Street are always engaging and delightful, with the obvious exceptions of the monstrous Irene Pollock and the narcissistic Bruce Anderson. To say more would be a spoiler !!!
Sit back and enjoy David Rintoul's excellent reading. It's hard to put down and yet disappointing when it ends knowing I will have to wait for the next installment to find out what happens in Bertie's life next.
