Summary
"You will be trapped in stone forevermore, your beauty hidden by a façade so ugly that people will not like to look upon it. You will feel, but you will not be able to speak. You will hear, but you will not be able to communicate. You will endure across the ages, a silent witness to the decades that go by".
François Damont’s only crime was loving the son of a witch in a time when it wasn’t permitted. For that sin, he’s been cursed to spend eternity locked inside the body of a gargoyle. A chance to break the curse comes only once every 25 years, lasting for no longer than 28 days. He’s been unsuccessful for hundreds of years. Why would this time be any different?
History lecturer Daniel Smith is still reeling from a broken marriage when he stumbles across a mysterious man. Frankie might be hiding something, but the connection between them is too strong to ignore. Can he unlock the mystery before it’s too late?
Strange dreams. Dark forces. People who may not be what they seem. Time is not the only thing against them. And perhaps Daniel knows more than he thinks he does
A sweet MM paranormal romance featuring magic, witches, and a relationship that might just be able to endure anything.

New author to watch out for.
I really enjoyed the story. I got the twist early on but it didn't detract from the story. Loved Frankie but wish Daniel had a bit more about him.

Enjoyable listening
I think the narrator enjoyed doing the different voices for this audiobook. His choices delineated the characters clearly and the story was easy to follow. I enjoyed the twists in the tale.

Loved it from the start
A story about witchcraft and love as a curse breaker in a mundane world. Sweetness, action and some twists to make it interesting.
And all cred to Jake Whalley who did a fantastic job with the characters. I think he was absolutely perfect for this book. Loved it!

A beautiful love story
This is my second book by H.L. Day and I was already very excited. The blurb sounded interesting and so was the story. I liked the writing style of H.L. Day, it is easy and light and after a few minutes of listening you are already at the side of François and Estienne. The two make love at a time when it was forbidden. Much to their misfortune, they are discovered by Estienne's mother, a witch. She has nothing better to do than to turn François into a gargoyle and put a curse on him.
Daniel's marriage is broken and when suddenly Frankie stands before him, he feels a certain connection. Despite his friend's warning, Daniel takes Frankie home with him. The chemistry sizzles between the two and I was excited to follow their development.
I have to say that Daniel and Frankie captured my heart. The story is unique and the end I had not foreseen. My heart bled for François, as he has to spend hundreds of years as an ugly gargoyle. But Daniel and Frankie are so sweet together that I was trembling to see what would happen when Frankie's time was up.
I really liked the mix of love story with fantasy parts. A really sweet fairy tale that invites you to dream and switch off from everyday life.
The narrator Jake Whalley is new to me and he did a really good job. I liked how he spoke the different accents. Also, you could always hear which character he was speaking. His narration pace was also great and with his pleasant voice he made this book a perfect listening experience.
I am already looking forward to more books by this author.

An Eternal Love.
MM, Paranormal, Magic, Witches, Romance. A sweet and emotional story that enthralled me from within the first few minutes, I found myself calling out advice to Francois (almost like I was in the audience at a Panto!) A beautiful and well written story that I found difficult to stop listening to, I enjoyed it so much. Non stop action and drama throughout and a healthy dose of fear and dread at times as well as love, a pure never ending love. Fantastic narration from Jake Whalley.

Very apt title
I truly love this author's writing style.
She has the ability to make you fall in love with her characters.
Frankie's story is one of suffering and love betrayed.
As he gets to know Daniel he begins to hope once again for his freedom from a horrible curse.
There was something so utterly sweet about these two men and yet at the same time the chemistry between them was sizzling.
Ultimately a tale of seeing beyond the surface to true beauty within, the soul.
Jake Whalley is new to me and I can definitely say I will be on the lookout for more from him.

Hokum
🎧 Jake Walley had a wonderful time perfoming this and his joie de vivre carried me through most of BW!! His accents were darling and l loved his pitch perfect portrayals of the female characters. He differentiated the MCs not only with accents but also cadence (rapid vs slow speech), timbre (light almost coquettish vs deeper and chestier) and emotions (both were fearful but it hit differently). This was a real pleasure to listen to and l am genuinely disappointed at Mr Walley's limited audiobook catalogue.
📚 If you like one line of dialogue followed by two pages of inner musing, then the snail paced conversations will appeal. If you like stories that unfold by inner monologuing, then the monotony will work for you. Finally, if you gasped every time Clark Kent removed his glasses to reveal his Superman, then the hokum here will be such a novelty.
