About this listen

In a world of shadows, anything is possible - except escaping your fate.

Ever since she was a child, Ivy has been gripped by visions of strange realms just beyond her own. But when her sister goes missing, Ivy discovers the truth is far worse - her hallucinations are real, and her sister is trapped in a parallel realm. And the one person who believes her is the dangerously attractive guy who's bound by an ancient legacy to betray her.

Adrian might have turned his back on those who raised him, but that doesn't mean he can change his fate, no matter how strong a pull he feels toward Ivy. Together they search for the powerful relic that can save her sister, but Adrian knows what Ivy doesn't: That every step brings Ivy closer to the truth about her own destiny and a war that could doom the world. Sooner or later, it will be Ivy on one side and Adrian on the other - and nothing but ashes in between.

3.4 stars

I didn't love this book. I wanted to love it, it has all the things I love...but I just found it annoying at points and felt like I had to hang in there.
I think the problem for me wasn't the story...it's the characters. I don't feel anything for them or understand them. So I don't feel when they don't die or they win something...or feel sad...basically the characters are not strong enough for me to wonder if they love each other or get it on.
Maybe the next book will be better, just can't help but think this book could of been shorter and still and the same result.

free reads?

I know they are free to read and believe me I have read a lot of them but why oh why do amazon keep filling my list with "coming of age" books??? I'm way too old for them and rind the predictable, slow, and boring.
Sorry but getting a bit fed up with them now.

narrator's voice did not suit storytelling

I found it very hard to continue with this book because of the simpering tone of the narrator.; frankly her chikdhish voice and subject matter did not fit with imaginative listening was near impossible

Amazing, definitely worth the money

What made the experience of listening to The Beautiful Ashes the most enjoyable?

If your looking for cat and bones reincarnate, don't bother. If you are looking for a truly well crafted story, with twisting plot lines and a narrator that greatly cares for the story and the characters (props tavia Gilbert) this Is for you. I would like to thank jeaniene frost for taking the leap from the highly successful night huntress universe and for keeping your readers so engaged. So many other authors rehash the same story with the same characters for the money. Jeaniene took the risk and I have to say that I for one am a devoted fan for life.

Great start to a new series.

Sometimes I find authors have a bit of trouble starting a brand new series after such long successful running one, but Jeaniene Frost jumped right into this series with such smooth confidence and ingenuity that it was perfect right off the bat. She's created an entirely new universe that's completely different from the Night Huntress series and it's wonderfully refreshing. I loved all the distinct characters, they were very well developed and unique. The fact that they all had their flaws made them that much more interesting and down to earth (so to speak) that you couldn't help but care for them and want to stay with them throughout their personal growth. The plot kept me hooked until the very end and the end itself has already perfectly set the stage for the next book in the series. I can't wait.

I love Tavia Gilbert's narration, she's very expressive and emotional. She does every character so well and with such passion. She's a perfect fit for such a well written book.
