Summary
When you swing for the fences, you risk it all....
Nate: The game is all that matters. It's all that's ever mattered. I've dreamed of wearing a big-league jersey since the first day I grasped a baseball. Now, I'm so close. Playing in the minors has been a blast, but I know I'm ready.
Then, Cooper appeared in the tunnel one night after a game. He's unlike anyone I've ever met—all wild hair and dimples, with a passion for numbers and a heart of gold. Being around him makes me forget all my worries, even when a batting slump threatens everything.
Cooper: People can be weird. Sometimes they say one thing that means something important, but they don't tell me that it's important because they want me to figure it out for myself, otherwise it won't be a lesson learned or something stupid. Other times, they say the exact same thing using the exact same words, but don't mean what they meant before and expect me to understand both meanings and know which I'm supposed to get. What's with that?
Sorry, I kind of ramble when I get excited or happy or sad...or really into something...like, a lot. I mean, I ramble a lot, not get really into things a lot. Although I can get really into things a lot sometimes. Um, I did it again, didn't I?
Anyway. My grandmother took me in when I was little. When she died, and I had to tell those named in her will of their inheritances, my world tilted. Sam, a mechanic who'd helped Grammy with Pop's old car, was on the list. He inherited a car, but I gained so much more—a pair of amazing friends in him and his partner, Miguel.
Then, they took me to a baseball game. How can meeting one man make my legs feel like jelly and my heart thump like a helicopter?
The Batter's Box is a slow-burn, nerd/jock mm sports romance where two men following very different roads converge on the path to happiness.

Delightful!
Really enjoying this series so far. Each one can read as a standalone, though I recommend reading the other books.
Cooper was such a beautiful person, funny, sweet and his runaway thoughts were hilarious! And Nate, such a nice guy.
The found family theme recurs through Casey Morales books and it's fun to see it grow, with past MM couple Miguel and Sam officially becoming "mom and dad" to their acquired 'sons'.
Though some difficult topics are part of the story (loss of a relative, some bigotry), it is virtually angst free.
Loved it!
Audio
Enjoyed listening to this. Dan Levy has done a great job with the series so far, but he outdid himself as Cooper! I found myself laughing out loud when Cooper spewed his 'verbal diarrhoea', lol! Great way to enjoy the book :)

Coop & Nate
I think this just might be my favourite from Nashville Spicy I just loved Cooper and his verbal detritus and analogies. I hate the prejudice shown to gay players it’s disgusting in this day and age and I know it goes on in real life to and people should be ashamed of themselves , well done Casey on bringing this to the forefront .

Beautiful slow burn baseball love story
Nate and Cooper. Cooper and Nate. I think I want to carve their names in a tree trunk, surrounded by a heart, just for them. I know that Cooper would most certainly have something to say about that, in typical Cooper fashion it would also most likely be completely off topic! I love Cooper. Nerdiness and all. It is what makes Cooper so, well Cooper whilst Nate. Well Nate is beautiful inside and out. A baseball player playing his heart on the field, in the minors and hoping for his big break.
It is sadly the death of Coop's beloved grandmother that brings the pair together. When Coop meets Sam the deal is done, he is in their group, he is another of their adopted sons! If you have been following the series this will make sense. Nate is already Miguel's adopted so there is no going back. Nor is there any going back once Nate lets his guard down, lets Coop in and finds his world suddenly shifting on its axis with the most wonderful man at its centre.
A beautiful slow burn romance. A found family story. A baseball story. Batting Box won my heart from the first and Dan Levy couldn't have captured the characters any more accurately in my opinion. He makes them, he brings them to life and he managed Coop with no problems at all! It is quite brilliant.
