Summary

The eagerly awaited new standalone novel from multi-award-winning author and scriptwriter Frank Cottrell Boyce. Find out why it's not easy being green in the hilarious new story from Frank Cottrell Boyce:The Astounding Broccoli Boy!

Rory Rooney likes to be prepared for all eventualities. His favourite book is Don't Be Scared, Be Prepared, and he has memorized every page of it. He could even survive a hippo attack. He knows that just because something is unlikely doesn't mean it won't ever happen....

But Rory isn't prepared when he suddenly and inexplicably turns green. Stuck in an isolation ward in a hospital far from home with two other remarkably green children, Rory's as confused by his new condition as the medics seem to be.

But what if it's not in their genes,or a virus or something they ate? What if turning green actually means you've turned into a superhero? Rory can't wait to make it past hospital security and discover exactly what his superpower might be....

Funny, fantastic and fabulous!

If you could sum up The Astounding Broccoli Boy in three words, what would they be?

Comical, amusing, outstanding

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Astounding Broccoli Boy?

When Rory and Tommy-Lee try to rob a bank.

What does Ewan Goddard bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

Amazing accents from Birmingham make the characters sound realistic.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

This film is officially one of your 'five a day.'

Any additional comments?

Full of fun. Anyone who has read books by Frank Cottrell Boyce will understand how the the combination of the absurd happinging within the everyday makes this book light-hearted and feel-good from the off.

So amazing! 😉

I thought this book was so good. My favourite character was probably tommy-lee because the way he starts off really mean and tough, then he changes to a sensitive sweet person was really affective! I loved this book. I wish all my friends could read this book because it is just SO good 😊. I recommend this book 8 and upwards. I have put 8 because it is quite a complicated book, and I think younger children 👶 just won't understand it and not like it because it is too complicated. It was such a great 👍 book! Well done frank Cottrell Boyce.

green is for go

This Was over the top just like Cosmic the previous book was

the lessons in broccoli boy were linked to comic books and being superheroes which is in keeping with the formula see below

millions = Saints
Framed = Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Cosmic = World Of Warcraraft
Broccoli Boy = Comic Books

although his Books have this formula two very important issues were tackled

making friends even if that new friend used to bully you

and racism (feeling discriminated against because there green)

which is something i wasn't expecting to be hinted at in a comedy feeling adventure book for kids i loved it
