About this listen

Love is a sacrifice at the altar of power.

In the wake of the Kejari, everything Oraya once thought to be true has been destroyed. A prisoner in her own kingdom, grieving the only family she ever had, and reeling from a gutting betrayal, she no longer even knows the truth of her own blood. She’s left only with one certainty: she cannot trust anyone, least of all Raihn.

The House of Night, too, is surrounded by enemies. Raihn’s own nobles are none too eager to accept a Turned king, especially one who was once a slave. And the House of Blood digs its claws into the kingdom, threatening to tear it apart from the inside.

When Raihn offers Oraya a secret alliance, taking the deal is her only chance at reclaiming her kingdom—and gaining her vengeance against the lover who betrayed her. To do so, she’ll need to harness a devastating ancient power intertwined with her father’s greatest secrets.

With enemies closing in on all sides, nothing is as it seems. As she unravels her past and faces her future, Oraya finds herself forced to choose between the bloody reality of seizing power and the devastating love that could be her downfall.

Full of heartbreak, redemption, bloody intrigue, and heart-pounding action, The Ashes and the Star-Cursed King is the gutting second installment of the Crowns of Nyaxia series and the conclusion of the Nightborn Duet. It is perfect for fans of From Blood and Ash and A Court of Thorns and Roses.

Good book

A good book, if a little predictable, left on an open ending ready for the next part of the series. I’m excited to see what’s next

Heart wrenching emotions

Enemies to lovers to enemies. The inner journey character goes through is brilliantly written. Some plots are a bit weak but overall enjoyed it.

don't use my review

I took a break in reading halfway through this book so my thoughts are kinda skewed. The break made the book feel so much longer.

The Ashes and the Sun Cursed King

A fantastic continuation of the first book. It took a while to get into it as it is a bit more world building than action but when the action kicks in it’s all worth it! Loved the story of Oraya and Raihn. So full of passion and mixed feelings to fight through to end up loving your mortal enemy. Fabulous!

Complex world building, vampires, gods and humans, political intrigue betrayal.

Wow. I would give this 100 stars if i could as 5 just doesn't seem adequate. You know when you're five minutes into a book and you just know this is going to be a great time, this was one of those experiences. Loved this, part 2 of The Crowns of Nyaxia series.
Raine is desperate to make up for Vincent's demise. Oraya is desperate to live up to his memory. Both have to fight through betrayal, political intrigue, their enemies who want the throne and the place they call home.
Raine helps Oraya to realise her new powers and she delves into her background as Vincent's heir and half vampire daughter, Raine helps her to reach her potential.
The entire audiobook was a roller coaster of a ride, but the last two hours, I couldn't stop listening. I had to know the outcome and wow, it didn't disappoint.
The hardback of the book isn't out in the UK until June but it is already on my wishlist as this is one audiobook I want a physical copy of too.

I love this love story so much

I read this book, listened it and then read it again. I always find some new details that I missed and that make the story even better. Is this a best literary piece ever? No, it’s not, but it is a good love story, and I like Rhain and Oraya more with each read.
Also alternating POVs were a nice touch, however I still hope that we will get some interesting stories on AO3 as well:)

great story if a little cringe.

Story is great, follows on nicely from the first and I look forward to more in this series. . however every time "that face" or "there she is" is said it takes me out of the whole story, worth a listen. even if it's a little cringe.

Glad to have the next installment

Like Game of Thrones with vampires instead of dragons! Looking forward to the next book.
