About this listen

To most people, something as bland and unremarkable as this stone-like object wouldn’t even warrant a second glance. However, as those who take possession of it soon discover, this particular object is much more than a simple stone, having traveled over a billion years to reach them at a specific moment in time.

Unlike other inanimate objects, this one possesses the power to bend destiny to the benefit of whoever holds it. Without consideration or regard for either good or evil, it amplifies the desires of the holder and manipulates the energy surrounding them shaping fate to their advantage.

With each new recipient, the artifact expands its knowledge while passing the sum of its experiences on to them. Although its mission is quite specific, its very existence is the closely guarded secret of a society sworn to recover it—a task which proves to be far more challenging than they could ever have suspected.

From the moment it breached the atmosphere, Earth’s clock had been ticking with the survival of the entire planet hanging in the balance.

A journey through time

I really enjoyed the book. The story follows different people through different times that come in contact with a stone artifact, we follow them and their how their lives are changed by the contact, it's a enjoyable story and I enjoyed the narration. I liked how events in our history are entwined in the story.

A great novel Novel

Riano has done it again with his unique story telling. A great story (or is it several stories linked by a common theme?).
How sad that the ending is typical of the world today, where competing powers dont see the greater good, only their wish to be bigger and better than everyone else.
Highly recommend.

Brilliantly executed

If you've read the description or blurb you'll have an idea what this might be about though I'm betting you won't guess how this plays out. Some of the book is written almost like a documentary with plenty of facts mixed in with the fiction but as it progresses it becomes far more involved in the lives of the characters.

I'll admit I wasn't sure what I thought right at the start but it soon had me hooked and by the end I had no doubt that this was a 5* read. Entertaining, cleverly written and well thought out. Beautifully narrated too. A brilliant listen. Highly recommended, even to those, like me, who are not Sci-Fi fans.

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

An engrossing epic tale

I took a while to get into this book, but once I did, I was completely absorbed. An enthralling and captivating tale spanning centuries. I also thoroughly enjoyed the narrator's performance. Top marks all round. Looking forward to more from both author and reader.

Well worth a listen: recommended

I guess this book loosely fits into the sci-fi genre - but if you're not a sci-fi fan, don't let that put you off because it's not all lasers blazing and gung-ho spaceships or anything like that...

This is actually a genuinely original, and interesting story - as much a tale about people, as anything. I won't go into specifics or spoilers, but I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this.

The book starts at a calm, measured pace, and then continues to 'tick along', taking it's time to build up the story without rushing or any unnecesary theatrics. Instead, it just slowly draws you in because it's... interesting!

The narration is also spot-on. I found the narrator very easy to listen to. I listen to *loads* of audiobooks, and trust me, the narrator can kill a book if he or she doesn't do a good job. Thankfully in this case, his voice is the perfect accompaniment to the story - neither wild, nor boring.

The entire book is quite short - just around 6hrs or so - so it's an easy one to pick up between long series if your regularly do big reads. This is my first encounter with Riano D. McFarland, but I'll certainly keep an eye out for more from the same author. :-)
