About this listen
It's 1924 and investigative reporter Poppy Denby is heading up to Northumberland to celebrate her father's 60th birthday. She stops off in Newcastle en route to visit her Aunt Dot, who has temporarily relocated from London to renovate a house she's inherited. One of Aunt Dot's guests is the world renowned artist Agnes Robson, who is staging an exhibition at the Laing Art Gallery. Reluctantly, Poppy is roped in to help when the artist's press liaison man falls ill. She soon discovers that the local press have dug up some dirt on Agnes relating to the tragic death of a young art teacher in Ashington Colliery, 27 years earlier. As she tries to suppress the story, Poppy begins to suspect that the teacher might have been murdered and that the killer may still be on the loose....

Great story, wonderfully narrated.
I love Poppy and Aunt Dot. A super story, beautifully narrated. Bravo. I've already used a credit to get book 6. I can't believe it's the last in the series though. I shall Miss Poppy Denby and Daniel. :(

Loving this series
The Poppy Denby series is superb. The plots are intriguing. The characters are now old friends. The historical settings are well researched and presented . As a resident of the North East I particularly enjoyed this book and, whilst I generally have a good inkling of elements of the denouement, the whodunnit is always a fun reveal. Excellent!

…And poppy’s adventures continue
Narrator excellent. The plot not as interesting as previous but…Books need to be read in order for characters storylines to be understood but very enjoyable with detailed historical context to carry the plot forward really well

Enjoyable but more predictable than the previous books.
I have enjoyed the Poppy Denby books but this one fell a little short for me. The plot was very slow and the ending quite predictable. Still enjoyable but not as interesting or dynamic as the previous books.

Fabulous Flapper Mystery
Thoroughly enjoyed this - wonderfully written and set in NE England. Characters are so fun and the story is fast-paced, with witty asides. Don't miss!

An enjoyable listening experience
Lovely, gentle stories. I’ve listened to all the previous ones as well. Love the main protagonist. I enjoy the historical aspects of the storyline.
Also love that it’s a gripping story that contains excitement without being gruesome. Good old-fashioned fun. Thank you to the author.

Poppy strikes again!
Another wonderful Poppy Denby adventure! I have enjoyed everyone of the books I have listened to & this one was no exception - it is also excellently narrated. I have one more to go and will really miss Poppy et al after I finish it. I still find it extremely disappointing that Fiona’s publishers pulled the series.. a very poor decision. Anyhow time to start that last adventure!
