Afton Morrison, 26, is a small-town children’s librarian by day, on a murderous mission to make the world a better place by night. From the hunt for a violent sexual predator to the last stand against her tormentor, The Afton Morrison Series delves into a world of moral ambiguity and is told in four thrilling parts:

  • Go Home, Afton
  • See You Soon, Afton
  • Nice Try, Afton
  • Time’s Up, Afton

Packed with suspense, grit, and action, The Afton Morrison Series delivers audiences an unlikely heroine in the form of a disturbed vigilante murderess.

This edition also features a bonus short story, "A Book with No Pictures", the first published title from author Brent Jones to have featured Afton Morrison as a character.

Crazy dark fun for crazy dark people

The story is a good one, long and meandering, starting way back when Afton was born (possibly even before?), and has been left open for more Afton shenanigans.

Afton is a childrens' librarian with a few strange desires but also a love of true and proper Justice, not the farcical official version, and I love her for this, although it is definitely creepy to fantasise about killing people and I'm sure I'd not like that trait in a personal friend or family member, but killing the rapists, child abusers and drug dealers is a fairly reasonable (if not legal) way to handle a bloodlust such as Afton's. There are many confusing dream sequences throughout the book/s, they are a bit of a road map for Afton with signs for her (and the reader) to follow but they can be confusing although they are a highly entertaining part of the story.

Kristin James is absolutely perfect, her creepy voices are super creepy and her Tia and Kim voices evoke just the right images for the characters.

I received a free copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest unbiased review which I have given.

A wasp in the fragile bottle of the mind.

We all at some point had thoughts of murder, be it revenge or because we are hurt, But gladly we all wake up and shake it off, but our lead Afton, seems to have opened the door and threw away the key. A mild mannered librarian, With a mind of Ted Bundy. The story has many faucets surrounding our heroine, (I cannot think of a better word) from rapes, to murders, to slaughter, to reading kids stories.
Were the life of Afton can go seems only one direction, something I will eagerly await.
Narrated in a naturally fluent paced manner that allows you to immerse in her life, with some memorable accent changes (though I did feel like adding a live electric cable to one heavily made up character)
A good read, and beginning of a long term relationship. Jim

There was always somebody watching, after all

Afton is a children's librarian. She doesn't like children. Then she doesn't .like anyone, other than her big brother. 'I like animals. People not so much,' she tells the readers in her first person recounting of her story, her thoughts, her fears and ideas. For Afton is a slightly unusual twenty something librarian - she wants to become a serial killer. At least, that is what her evil internal twin tells her.
The Afton Morrison Series is the compilation of the four books which make up a serial novel, comprising Go Home Afton, See you Soon, Afton, Nice Try Afton and I'll make you Pay. It is a strange mix of psychological drama, comedy, youthful angst, and rather unpleasant ideas mixed up in a plot which becomes increasingly bizarre and unreal as the book progresses.Think of an incompetent female Dexter who always manages to mess things (and people) up and you'd be partway there. There are many well written visual and visceral moments, with sweat, heat and dumpster smells competing with plently of blood. And it is a fun listen especially with Kristin James narrating. She is able to imbue the story with a mystery which draws in the reader, as well as a superbly over-the-top theatrical inner voice, simultaneously funny and chilling. Each of the characters voiced individually according to their natures (even if the majority of females seem to have high pitched girly girl voices - but then, they mostly deserved it). Hers was a truly astonishing performance.

I must confess to being somewhat torn in my liking for this book. Firstly, I have to say that I enjoyed it immensely, especially the first two sections which were darkly threatening as well as very funny. But although I continued to listen with great pleasure, I also couldn't help but wonder about the, let's say, morality of the third and fourth volumes as well as the totally unbelievable aspects which seemed too crazy even in the context. Everything just seemed to lose it's way in one big psychotic crazy. This is not a story for anyone adverse to swearing or nefarious arrangements.
That said, pleasure in the listening easily overcame my internal objections and if any more books are to follow, this reader will definitely be eager to discover what Afton does next. As a bonus, there is an additional short story, glimpsing Afton in her earlier librarian days, read equally well, if somewhat less dramatically, by Wyatt Baker, following a short note from the author, Brett Jones. My deep thanks to the rights holder who, at my request via Audiobook Boom, freely gifted me with a complimentary of of The Afton Morrison Series, books 1 - 4.. Great murderous fun.
