About this listen
In this third book of the Sundering series kicked off by R.A. Salvatore and the dark elf Drizzt, SCRIBE award-winning author Erin M. Evans thrusts her signature character Farideh into a maelstrom of devilish politics and magical intrigue that will have far-reaching implications for the future of the Forgotten Realms.
As the chaos of the Sundering rages around her, young warlock Farideh faces a more personal turmoil wrought by a deal she made with a devil years ago. Hoping to protect her twin sister, she leaves everything she holds dear to assist a wizard in a scheme that pits the devils of the Nine Hells against the gods above.
But when Farideh casts the spell to enter the wizard’s remote mountaintop fortress, she picks up a stowaway - a Harper agent named Dahl who isn’t so inclined to follow devilish demands.
Dahl attempts to escape only to run into a village of odd people, lurking behind an impenetrable wall. Forced to gaze into the villagers’ souls, Farideh points out the ones who seem different, only to watch as the wizard’s guard carts them off to fates unknown. Are these villagers or prisoners? Are they blessed or doomed by the gods? As the wizard’s guessing game proves more and more diabolical, Farideh resolves to unravel his secrets - even if it means she’ll lose her own soul to the Nine Hells.

gossip girl does D&D
Way too many characters and emotional turmoil even for drizzts world. it's like listening to a really soft soap opera, I mean there devils! tieflings and demons! I'm guessing the teefling warlock is going to meet up with drizzt at some point and finally settle which god's champion he is and thus she has to have to have a good moral code etc for drizzt to take her seriously but come on? anyway the narration was quite good, could have reduced the book down to around 5 hours really.

Cannot Praise This Highly Enough :-))
Would you listen to The Adversary again? Why?
I already have. Since purchasing this and the other Brimstone Angel audio books, I have listened to all of them at least three times each. As to why, I absolutely LOVE them :-)) Dina Pearlman does a brilliant job of bringing these stories, and the character to life :-))
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Adversary?
There are just too many, to choose just one, and I wouldn't want to spoil anything for everyone else.
What does Dina Pearlman bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
Ms Pearlman is perfect for these stories. She gives life to the characters, and both drama and humour to all the Brimstone Angel stories.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Absolutely. If I could stay awake long enough, I would have listened to all the Brimstone Angel stories in one sitting. I am eagerly awaiting the release of the next book, and hoping that Dina Pearlman agrees to read that one too.
Any additional comments?
These are some of my favorite audio books, and I strongly recommend these stories to anyone who likes fantasy. Awesome :-)) :-)) :-))

It was ok...
A lot of wrestling with feelings, too many names involved in the action, interesting story though and good characters overall.

Very disappointed
At first, for the first 20 minutes I thought it was going to be a good book: characters with personality, hoping for a badass female protagonist and a good narrator. But it was a slow slow book with lots of pacing problems and completely dragging its feet from the very first hours. It can’t justify an audiobook with little to offer like this with its mammoth 20 hours. I was amazed at how little had happened in the first 5. The protagonist had to make a bold move hoping to protect someone. And it has a surprising, negative consequence for her and her sister. That’s it.
What can you expect from this book?
It’s not an action-fantasy heavy book AT ALL so look elsewhere if that’s what you’re hoping for. Someone else lots of exciting things happen, and sorry but that’s plainly wrong. It’s extremely saturated with characters who live thinking “what if this had/hadn’t happened” and worse, expect every 20 minutes people wondering why someone did something “Maybe it was like this. Maybe it was like that. Maybe it was something else”. Too introspective and dwelling on things that mostly don’t matter. The narrator tries to do voices and works with the material with enthusiasm, she does her job.
