Summary
Sometimes, to find love, you have to be a little accommodating…
A whip-smart, hilariously funny romcom for fans of Mhairi McFarlane and Sophie Kinsella!
‘Witty, heartwarming and totally relatable’ Kathryn Freeman
Cath Beckinsale is in a jam. She’s a single mum of three, with her 40th birthday in sight and a precarious hold on employment. And she can’t quite let go of her late husband Gaz, whose ashes are still in an urn on the kitchen table.
To make ends meet a student lodger seems like the perfect solution – after all, what’s one more child in the house? But when Dan flies in from the US with guitar and chest hair on display, it’s immediately clear that he’s no teenager, but someone who quickly sends life in an unexpected direction.

social realism with pee and poop humour
This pee and poop humour was not really my thing... I can absolutely cope with disgusting things in life but do not need to read about them. Good narrator and probably a good story. Just not my thing.

Far exceeded my expectations
For transparency I know the author a little. I know she’s intelligent and witty, but this book takes her intelligence and wit to a whole new level, far exceeding my expectation. The balance of educated humour, combined with real-life humour is brilliant! It’s also a great story line. At times it’s funny. At times it’s real. At times it’s moving.
My only slight criticism, is that for the first hour the pace of the person reading it feels a tad slow. I found this made it slightly harder to engage with to begin with, but as the pace and the story progressed, and as you get to know the characters more, I found myself staying up late, or not wanting my car journeys to end so I could carry on listening to it.
I was a bit gutted when I’d finished it. I must admit, I’d not expected to like it too much, thinking it might be a bit ‘chick flick’ like. In reality it feels far from chick flick like. It’s gritty and powerful at times, but well balanced by humour. In fact enjoyed it so much, I’m halfway through listening to it for a second time

An enjoyable story, brilliantly narrated.
A story told with insight and humour, which was brought life by the excellence of the narrator.

A book to make you laugh and cry
Loved this book. I found it funny, original in its expressions, romantic, colourful and sometimes very moving and tinense. I listened to the audio version and loved the many voices of the narrator who delivered all the emotions so convincingly. The characters blossomed with the reading aloud and lived for me. A totally satisfying audio version of a well written book.

Great story, fantastic narration
I loved this book- the story was relatable, very funny and moving too at times. The characters were believable and so well written. The narrator was absolutely fantastic. The voices bought the characters to life and her pace and story telling was spot on. Best I've listened to for a long time - I hope she does more!

Not really my cup of tea
It wasn’t bad. A quite funny protagonist and interesting story, but I had a bit of an issue with the narrator (her voice seemed bothered and forced, although she was very good making different voices) and the language was quite rude and a bit try hard. Don’t know. Wasn’t bad at all, just not for me. Think I like it “sweeter”.
