About this listen
A species that has no word for murder, has a murderer aboard their spaceship.
Alien
Tristol lives in exile. But he’s built a life for himself aboard a human space station. He’s even begun to understand the complex nuances of human courting rituals.
Detective Hastion is finally flirting back!
Murder
Except that Tristol’s beloved space station is unexpectedly contacted by the galoi - a xenophobic species with five genders, purple skin, and serious attitude. They need the help of a human detective because there’s a murderer aboard their spaceship. Murder is so rare, the galoi don’t even have a word for it.
Tristol knows this because he is galoi.
Romance
Which means that he and Detective Hastion are on the case...together.
Delicate sensibilities?
Contains men who love other men in graphic detail, regardless of gender, biology, or skin color...and lots of emotively sexy tentacle hair.
New York Times best-selling author Gail Carriger (writing as G.L. Carriger) brings you a light-hearted romantic cozy mystery featuring an adorable lavender alien and his human crush.

Beautiful
I originally resisted starting this book because it was set in space. That was a mistake.
I have thoroughly enjoyed the tale, and whilst the San Andreas books remain my favourites (of GL Carriger) I look forward to hearing more about a special purple alien.

Thought provoking, hilarious, moving, and sexy
Michael Lesley was the perfect choice of narrator for this sci-fi romance. He brought out the nuances of the story so well, and I'll definitely be seeking out more of his narration, as well as having started another of Gail Carriger's audiobooks the same day I finished this one. You can read the plot summary for yourself, but I would add that this hilarious, sexy whodunnit turns out nothing like you would expect, but something far more moving and thoughtful. It comes in at just under six and a half hours, relatively short for an audiobook, but it really packs a punch. Highly recommended.

Brilliant story
A great story with excellent characters and a rich descriptive style. The narration by Michael Lesley is superb and really makes this tale a firm favourite. If you like your stories with a bit of quirk and humour this is the one for you. More please!

Delightfully novel
Fantastic characters and world building. A joy to listen to!! Loved the story and how it unfolded alongside the deepening romance. If you’re considering listening to something a bit different, do give this story a chance.

Seriously amazing!
I’m not usually a huge Sci-Fi fan, I like the concept I just often find the stories to be kind of....formulaic?
This was so not that kind of Sci-Fi. Funny, clever & mega original. 100% my favourite work of Science Fiction & possibly my favourite work of Queer fiction!
I love this kind of 2LGBTQIA fiction where the whole spectrum (and more!) is represented & I absolutely ADORE the exploration of what gender & sexuality might mean in a populated universe. The alien culture is fascinating and brilliantly fleshed out as a concept and honestly the only way I could have loved this more is if a) there had been a few more female spectrum characters and if b) the book had been three times as long 😊
Please write more in this universe! Maybe the next one can focus on the lovely adjudicator boss?

Gorgeous story and great audio version
A gorgeous story of space station life, love and acceptance. With a backdrop of a mystery death on a visiting spaceship to solve.
A stand alone story from GL Carriger (Gail Carriger with more explicit sex scenes) set on a space station with two main characters that come to life in an alternate world that's easy to move to.
The narration fits the story really well, and is a joy to listen to.

Alien romance
This was fun! Relax and enjoy a gay romance in space. Who doesn’t love strokeable aliens with flexible gender.

loved it more than I expected
Content warnings: Lots of stuff about pregnancy, voluntary and involuntary, Medical negligence, exile, suicide,
Will admit I was dubious that a writer I love for steampunk could do Sci fi but should have more faith this book is fantastic
Really cute gay romance, lots of conversation and sweetness and navigating complications. And quite a lot of sex.
I would love more in this universe
Fantastic voice actor for the audio (which is especially important for books with sexy times in my opinion!)
So many relatable feelings, it just gets very heavy and sad sometimes but the story is very good.

Thank you for hope
This might seem silly to some but this book has given me hope. Hope of acceptance. Hope of change. Hope of love. I am a genderfluid, pansexual being. I have been suiciedal since i was young and have tried and failed several times to take my own life. I also self harm. Some of this has been and still is due to feeling out of place within society. And even though this is a fiction book it has given me hope. Hope i had lost but desperatly needed. Thank you so much for giving me back some.
