About this listen
Do you listen to the little voice in your head? How does it sound? Is it negative and judgmental, or positive and solution-seeking? Many individuals walk around with a constant voice nagging them to do better, to be someone they are not, and sometimes to give up on their goals.
A major factor that drives people away from their desired outcome is the battle with cognitive dissonance. Cognitive dissonance can be defined as an internal conflict between two contradicting thoughts or mental models inside our mind. When we believe one thing should be true but our parents, teachers, or society tell us the opposite, we struggle to comprehend why and struggle to accept the reality of the situation.
This can cause us to pause and question various aspects of our lives, potentially leading to discouragement or a general lack of motivation. If not properly managed, it may even result in depression or anxiety disorders. We tend to resist change and uncomfortable truths about life, and the situation is not helped by the unrealistic deadlines and expectations imposed by modern school systems and corporate cultures.
This book serves as a guide to clearer thinking and finding motivating activities to form healthy routines and better habits in your life. It briefly dives into strategies but mostly explores the science behind why we avoid discomfort and struggle to keep pushing forward when confronted with things we don't want to hear.
"Happiness" or fulfillment in life comes from having clarity about your goals and the reasons why you are pursuing them. There will always be people who discourage you or tell you how bad your ideas are. For some, it may even be their own self-doubt holding them back. This book aims to transform that negative narrative and shed light on the underlying reasons behind certain behaviors that hinder us from making progress towards our life goals. By adopting paradigm shifts and incorporating daily habits, we can develop a growth mindset.
